It was time to build a
custom woodpecker
bird house

A dead tree was
used for this project

This deluxe 1 room
suite has a spacious
7" x 7" x 16" interior

BostonBob attaches
the base of the house

Cut off lag bolts were
used as locating pins
for roof assembly

Fitting of the roof
was critical for
easy access

It didn't take long!
On the 6th day after
hanging a couple of Acorn Woodpeckers discover
the house

Both birds
checking the
potential for a
new condo

The morning was spent
examining every inch
of the new structure

The hole through bark was
intentionally left small.
newlyweds started pecking their own custom
front entrance

Acorn Woodpecker

At the bottom of the bird house you'll notice 3"-4" of wood
shavings from the chain saw work left behind for bedding material.

With some luck a pair of woodpeckers will use the house to
raise some little ones and we'll have a chance to see the
