To The family, friends and co-workers of Mike Mckay
« on: Jan 26, 08, 07:36:02 AM »

It is with a heavy heart, that Laura and I announce the passing of our son Michael Vincent McKay in an avalanche yesterday.  Funeral arrangements are pending, and information will be posted here and throughout the community as they became known.

Mike was loved by many and we will be mourning his loss for ever.

We will be accepting visitors throughtout the day at our home, should personal greetings wish to be extended.  His sister Hannah is home from UCSB too, should any of her friends wish to contact her, and Mike's grandparents David and Sheryl Ogilvie are also at our home now.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers, and our thanks to the rescuers who helped in this time of need.

Vince and Laura McKay

"One of the benefits of living in a small community is that we tend to know everyone.  When tragedy strikes, that intimate knowledge makes the chances of being affected in one way or another much greater.  Events like last night touch all of us.  We will offer these two threads for each of you to share your thoughts of Mike and Darren and let their families and friends know that our thoughts and prayers are with them."

I did not know your son.  However, I am so saddened by your loss.  I have heard nothing but wonderful sentiments of him.  May you find peace in the Lord.

I did not know Mike but it sounds like it would have been a privilege. God bless you in this dark time.

I will borrow these words from J.R.R. Tolkien, who thought of Heaven when he wrote this: "And it seemed to him that as in his dream ... the grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise."

God Bless your family during this difficult time. My son looked up to your son as he is a local snow boarder. Also, my dear friends were great friends with your son. I cant begin to tell you how sorry I am. This community has been humbled from this. We are here for you if you need us.

There are truly no words one can give, at such a time, that bring all the comfort we would really like to be able to give.  But even so, we extend our sympathies and prayers to you and your family & friends.  May the Lord hold you all in the palm of His gentle hand.

The Plan of the Master Weaver

Our lives are but fine weavings that God and we prepare,
Each life becomes a fabric planned and fashioned in His care.
We may not always see just how the weavings intertwine,
But we must trust the Master’s hand and follow His design.
For He can view the pattern upon the upper side,
While we must look from underneath and trust in Him to guide.

Sometimes a strand of sorrow is added to His plan,
And though it’s difficult for us, we still must understand
That it’s He who fills the shuttle, it’s He who knows what’s best,
So we must weave in patience and leave to Him the rest.

Not till the loom is silent and the shuttles cease to fly
Shall God unroll the canvas and explain the reason why –
The dark threads are as needed in the Weaver’s skillful hand
As the threads of gold and silver in the pattern He has planned.

We have tried to find the words to express our grief but have found none. We only have ears to listen and shoulders to cry on. May God pour his blessings on your family.

I met your son after I rescued his dog.  I will always remember his uniqueness.  Mike had a loving, caring, natural way about him. He made such an impact on me in that short amount of time, that I can only imagine the legacy he has left behind to his family and close friends. He will be missed. We are deeply sadden by your loss.
