Following natural disaster events, the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) may activate the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program, which provides technical and financial assistance to help communities address imminent threats to life and property caused by floods, fires, storms, and other watershed-impairing disasters. San Bernardino County has asked NRCS to begin the EWP application process in an effort to secure emergency federal funding to help mitigate recent storm impacts.

EWP funding can also be used to address impacts on private property. However, for private properties to be included, landowners must first contact the EWP sponsor, in this case San Bernardino County, to request an initial site visit. During these visits, county staff collect data and assess needs for inclusion in the EWP application.

Given how well connected you all are within the community, and that you may already be in contact with affected landowners, you are welcome to share the following contact information:

Michael Fam
San Bernardino County Department of Public Works
Email: mfam@dpw.sbcounty.gov
Phone: 909-387-8121

Michael, along with other county representatives and NRCS staff, are planning to conduct site visits in the coming weeks. The more interested private property owners who request assessments, the stronger the overall application will be when seeking emergency funding.

Has anyone spoken to Cal-Trans about the left turn from 138 onto 2 as you're coming from the freeway? I don't understand why we are being forced to make an unsafe U turn somewhere down the road.  For people stopping at the signal thinking they can turn left...you are a sitting duck since you are not in the turn lane.  Am I missing something?

I went down to Beekley and made a U at the signal.

It’s been a few days since I went through there, but isn’t caltrans using that lane that you’d be on if you made that left turn, as the place their equipment is parked for the checkpoint?
