I agree. UIA is THE BEST. Thank you for everything, Wes and the team. Sagespirit

Sure would be nice if they came over to Pacific Crest so we could see for ourselves.

Isn't it against the law in some form to bundle a router rental fee into the main service, regardless of whether the customer uses it?

Hey Wes, a huge thanks to you and your team for bringing high speed Wi-Fi to our local community. I also appreciate that you're working on improvements and underground networks. We are very fortunate to have UIA in Wrightwood.
The only question I have on the pricing is regarding the router fee. We purchased our own router to avoid that fee, yet now those who didn't are going to be paying the same price which doesn't seem quite fair. Does that mean that if our router goes out, UIA will replace it? Or if we need an additional one for our home, you will provide it?
You are a business that will do what you feel you need to do, just wanted to let you know our thoughts.
Thanks again for the excellent service you provide.

I never had the rental UIA router, and have never seen it on the bill.

That said, the ONT (the box that hooks to the fiber and whatever you use for a router) is in a sense "bundled" because it's essential.

Don't see how the router (if you choose it) would be any different.

Same with Set-Top boxes I've "rented" when I was a cable subscriber.

One thing you might have missed in the E-Mail from Wes:

Quote
Within a year we plan to have a redundant circuit feeding the town of Wrightwood that will be underground, and therefore not in the path of fire as is the case with poles.

I made my living on the internet from 1995 to about 2013.  One thing that is always a problem is getting good, solid redundant circuits.

I believe UIA has redundant circuits now, but they're leased fiber from two different telecoms.  The accountants at the two vendors found the least expensive way to bring those fibers in.  Usually, that would be "condo-fiber" -- just like a condominium where you own your unit, but the building belongs to someone else.

In this case, they were in separate bundles, but on the same poles running through the Sheep Creek wash, and they both burned down at about the same time.

Running new fiber, in a trench, is incredibly expensive, but UIA fiber is my primary link to the rest of the world (voice and data), and to me this is incredibly good news.

Does anyone have direct contact to Kevin Rhodes or someone else from UIA to admin shut the wave from Wrightwood to Coresite LA1? MTR to 1.1.1.1 (Any2West) is showing 5-10% packet loss and >10ms latency. I would assume the Frontier transit backhaul is not having these issues.

Changed some routing on my stuff in LA to avoid the bad path for my own stuff, looks like only TX from LA -> Wrightwood is problematic. TX Wrightwood -> LA is perfectly fine. I was thinking maybe an L1 issue but perhaps it's congestion?
