Fuel reduction project begins

(1/2) > >>

Wrightwood:
Last year the Fire Safe Council was contacted by a resident who's insurance company refused to renew their fire insurance due to the overgrown vegetation behind their residence. Upon investigation by the Fire Safe Council, it was determined that the vegetation lies wholly within a County Flood Control Parcel. There are several homes at severe risk of fire due to this overgrown, unattended vegetation issue.

The area of concern is a small drainage channel which runs from the south side of Apple west of Acorn diagonally east to Acorn then joins the Swarthout Creek channel.

This joint venture involving the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council, San Bernardino County Fire Department, San Bernardino County Flood Control, and the California Department of Fish and Game, was planned and approved to thin the vegetation in the flood control wash adjacent to the at risk properties

After months of letter writing, phone calls, emails and on-site meetings with agency representatives the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council is pleased to announce that San Bernardino County Fire Crews began vegetation reduction this week. This is the 1st time San Bernardino County Fire crews have been used for this type of vegetation reduction anywhere in the county.

Careful attention was placed on a fuel reduction project that would not jeopardize wildlife habitat in the area.

The project should be completed next week depending on weather and fire conditions.

Another joint fuel reduction project that involves the Wrightwood Fire Safe Council, San Bernardino County Fire and private land owners should began in the next couple of weeks. This fuel reduction project will also be dependent on weather and fire conditions and further details and photos will be posted when the project begins.

Many thanks to everyone involved

This project is being accomplished through the hard work of all of the members of the W.W. Fire Safe Council.  Thanks to their tremendous efforts in coordinating the many agency's involved this project has gone smooth, and is almost complete.  Beyond all of the efforts in coordinating they also went door to door to help residents learn how they could get involved by reducing the fire hazards in their yard.  Two thumbs up to an outstanding group who's hard work has paid off with being able to perform this project, and also for their hard work in another project that will soon be starting  :2thumbsup:  The Apple Fuels Project is near completion and will be finished up soon.  The W.W. Fire Safe Council has done an oustanding job in the community.  Keep up the good work.
