I have to say I remember how exciting it was to watch the storm come in and get up in the morning to a ton of fresh snow. I wish we could be there. Enjoy

Snow update: Almost 7ft of snow at Mountain High! Obviously, travel is not recommended in the mountains in the short term. Roads are treacherous and visibility is very low. @nbcla

Wrightwood Crews Stay Busy with Backcountry Rescues

Significant snow in the Wrightwood area has complicated travel near our mountain communities. Yesterday your #SBCoFD firefighters from Station 14 rescued multiple parties trapped in their vehicles on treacherous or impassible roads. Additional personnel staffed a Snow Cat at fire station 14 making sure they are ready for the increase in calls in and around Wrightwood. The new Snow Cat was vital for our crews to safely access incidents & allowed for safe evacuation in both incidents.

Jackson Lake area - Los Angeles County Sheriff Search & Rescue requested Snow Cat (SC) 14 to assist with a search/rescue operation near Jackson Lake. SC14 responded to help locate & evacuate three adults and a dog after their vehicle became stuck in a ditch. Firefighters traveled multiple miles to the victims and had to cut multiple trees with chainsaws along the route to make it to their destination. Once arriving firefighter-paramedics warmed and assessed the victims, thankfully all parties were cold but uninjured. The crew then brought the victims and LA County Search and Rescue staff back to the incident command post.

Gobblers Knob (near Lytle Creek) - Crews were requested to help locate and evacuate two adults who became stuck on a remote road North of Lytle Creek, Southeast of Wrightwood. The snow was so thick crews had to plow multiple miles into make access to the stranded victims. Thankfully both parties were non injured & were safely rescued.

The new Snow Cat 14 has been vital for multiple rescues this Winter. The 2021 PistenBully is fitted with a plow, diesel engine and seats 8-10 people.
