That's weird as it says it the right size.

Oh brother did I mess that one up. I was thinking the max size was 85x85 and that why it's the size it is. It should have been 65 max.

I've tried to figure that out and could not so far.
I doubled check the settings and it says 65x65 max.

I changed the setting so it's resized for the time being.

Looks like the forum software has problems.... I put a 96X96 up and it works... Don't worry i have a 64X64 to change back too.

supermom's got through because she is Super!!    I love her avatar and also the saying underneath it.   I'm going to try to find a smiling Grinch to go with her "Welcome Christmas".

Wrightwood, would it slow down the forum or hurt us in any way to have a bigger allocation for the avatars?   Sometimes I find one I want to use and it is just 20 bigger than the allotment amount.   I know that avatars are an extra but I like to play with the pictures.

FunkyGorilla, are you playing with avatar because right now all I'm seeing is the little red x.

The bigger the pic the more that has to be downloaded... It isn't noticeable on DSl but those with dial up sure notice the difference.

OK, mea culpa guys.  Up to now when you went to add an avetar and it was too big, you got a little message saying you could not use it because it was too big. I erroneously thought because it went though you must have changed the maximum size.   Sorry, sorry, sorry.  Now.... how do I keep my picture, but resize it to make it legal.  I have just spent the last hour trying to figure it out, and, nothing.  I have saved it, resized it, but what do I do then to link it to the website.  Help... I love my picture, but don't want to break the rules.  Thank you anyone.....

Super mom I'm not picking on ya just using you as an example.  ;)

5.01Kb

2.4kb

If everyone had a bigger avatar of 5.01kb that would = 75.1 kb of avatars per page

If everyone has a 2.4kb avatar that would = 36kb of avatars per page.

Dial up speed is 56kb/s (if your lucky) so with the bigger avatars it would take them 1.3 sec just to load avatars. With the smaller avatars it only takes .6 seconds. I know that seems like no time at all but thats just the avatars.... Then there is the header at the top and all the links and all the text in the forum. It saves time for those that don't have DSL.

Which part?
The resizing of an Avatar?
Or putting an Avatar on a server?
Other?

Resizing it, I keep trying and I can not get it small enough.  Is there a program that I should use?

Thank you soooo much Wrightwood!!!!!  With all else you have to do you took the time to resize my silly avatar for me - YOU ARE THE BEST!!! I honestly need to find a course in avatar 101, so that is my next quest.
No offense taken FunkyGorilla, I am always learning and always appreciate any information given.  As my teenager keeps reminding me, the fact that someone MY AGE can even navigate in the computer world is pretty good. (She's a peach!)
I will now stick to the 65 x 65 size.
Thanks again Wrightwood.....
