I'm supporting Rick Christensen as one of the qualified candidates for Wrightwood Community Services District Board!
As a long-time Wrightwood resident and experienced engineer, Rick is running for the Wrightwood Community Services District (WCSD) to strengthen our infrastructure, enhance security, promote economic growth, and expand partnerships with the community and surrounding organizations.
The WCSD is responsible for just four of the eleven powers most community service districts are allowed to manage, leaving over twenty services provided by the county. He believes it’s critical to establish direct relationships with the people who oversee these other services. Too often, we’re told, “It’s not one of the board’s responsibilities,” but as a board member—and as a dedicated citizen of Wrightwood—he sees it differently. If there’s a problem in our village, we should be willing to help solve it
Building personal connections with the people who provide these other services can lead to solutions through simple communication. A phone call or meeting can often cut through red tape. As your board member, he would actively seek out these relationships and foster a collaborative approach to problem-solving.
WCSD has done great work, but only about 1% of our population is regularly involved in civic matters. Rick want's to change that. That’s why he is proposing a monthly digital update, such as a YouTube channel or video summaries, where residents can stay informed on key issues in just a few minutes. This would allow everyone to participate on the issues that matter most to them.
One of his goals is to ensure WCSD stays in regular contact with our county, state, and even federal partners. These organizations have resources and programs that could greatly benefit Wrightwood. By identifying, connecting, and staying in touch with the right people, the CSD might be able to unlock opportunities that have been overlooked for too long. It’s about personally knowing who to call when help is needed
If you’re like me, you’ve noticed how unsightly the rows of porta-potties lining Highway 2 in the winter are. Since 2020, Rick has been working to fix this issue. As someone with engineering expertise in sewer systems, he recognizes that Wrightwood’s septic systems can’t handle the increased demand during busy seasons. That’s why the village needs a proper sewer system—that offers far greater capacity and efficiency.
The good news? Rick tells me that the design for the new sewer system at the Community Center is already complete! They are now in the final stages of submitting drawing packages for permits. Even better, this project is funded by the county—the money is in the bank. While the construction won’t be finished this winter, by next winter, we will no longer have to rely on porta-potties!
However, the process isn’t without challenges. The building permits are straightforward, but navigating the complex environmental regulations has been more difficult. Rick has e dealt with these hurdles before and having a seat on the WCSD Board would significantly help move this project forward.
This is where you come in. By voting for Rick Christensen, on November 5th, you’re helping Wrightwood finally solve this long-standing issue. With your support, we can ensure no more porta-potties and continue improving our community.
