Most of the outages are to replace one pole, and we're going to see a ton of these over the next few years.

I don't know what it's like on the east side of town, but on the west side circuits run between streets.

When our power is out for a pole replacement, our neighbors across the street have power -- or the reverse.

Last year we had 7 scheduled outages. So far this year we have 6 scheduled.

1-17-24
3-19-24
4-8-24
4-29-24
5-21-24
and now 6-7-24

As I said on the last page, I appreciate them upgrading the equipment and we need to keep the lineman safe while working. but this seems super excessive.

Remember what happened to Paradise.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise,_California#2018_fire

SDGE, SCE and PG&E wanted protection from astronomical liability judgements, so they asked, and got the legislature to pass, a law limiting their liability.  In exchange, they are required to replace all of the bare wires that bring us our power with heavier, insulated wire.

The existing poles aren't strong enough, so what we're seeing is new poles to replace weaker ones.

When the poles can handle it, we're going to see outages to pull the new wire.  When that's done, a tree branch or a kite string won't start a fire and destroy Wrightwood.

If you aren't thinking about the massive project to rewire entire towns, then yeah, seems excessive.  I'd blame the legislature, but things will be safer when it's all done so I just deal with that.

My biggest irritation from this: many of my clocks set themselves, but a few don't.

Is anybody else having frequent issues with UIA internet over the past week or so?

Our house is having frequent but brief "outages" or some kind of connection instability for the past week or so.  Sometimes everything seems fine, but other times, Zoom meetings don't work well at all or we have to switch to a cellular connection.  Sometimes streaming works...sometimes it freezes way too often to be watchable.  Assorted "time-outs" or "this operation failed because the connection was lost" on various applications too.

We've tried the "basic" stuff like restarting the routers, etc...but no luck.

I mean, I'm okay with the outage being cancelled, but I have a new power bank big enough to handle the critical loads, and a generator to keep the power bank charged (without running the generator overnight).

Never lost power.....

We did, somewhere around 6:00 am.  Not sure how long, at least an hour.

Enough that clocks on the stove and microwave needed to be reset.

From Edison's outage website (https://www.sce.com/outages-safety/outage-center/check-outage-status), they don't seem to have updated the status for Wrightwood outages recently.

Outage 800485588 started at 2:06pm due to "Equipment Problems" and affects 11 customers. It is listed that it was reported, the cause was determined, and crews were working on fixing i ist.  The last update was 5:26pm, indicating that most affected people should have power back by 8:00pm. (Time of writing this post is 8:40pm)

The second outage in Wrightwood is 800485556 and affects over 2000 customers, which is probably most or all of town. It started at 4:30pm, and the most recent update is listed at 7:00 pm, and it just says "Analyzing problem" but does not list workers arriving or fixing...but somehow had an estimated fix for most customers by 7:30pm.  (time of this post and my last check of SCE's site roughly 8:40pm)

As of 9:50pm, Edison hasn't updated the smaller outage since 5:26pm ...still says that work is being performed and most are expected to have power by 8pm today (Xmas Eve)

For the larger outage covering most of Wrightwood (800485556), there was an update at 8:45 PM saying there is no estimated time for a fix (previously the estimate was 7:30pm). The reason is listed as "equipment problem"...but the progress details still only say that the outage is reported and an investigator is on the way....status says that determining the cause has not started....status says work crew transit has not started.

Does anyone know if they’re allowing residents to return if we leave? I live in West Cajon and with the 138 closed, im afraid they won’t let me come back.

I talked to SCE around 6:00 am because I could not find the outage.  No estimated time to repair.

Has anyone seen the substation on the east side of town?  I'm wondering if the flood got it.

Wonder why the Wrightwood outages no longer appear on the SCE website.

After talking with them I get the feeling they don’t want us to know how bad it really is.

On Facebook, someone posted a photo of the exposed underground vault east of substation. Yes, that's going to take a while.

I just now got a text message from SCE, saying that power may not be restored until 12/30/2025

Yup.  I got two texts:

Quote
SCE: We are working to restore power in the Wrightwood area. Power may not be restored until Tuesday, 12/30/25 due to the extensive repairs and weather conditions. Info: http://sce.com/outage

Quote
SCE: Outage 000800485700 We estimate that power surrounding  E CANYON DR will be restored 12/30/2025 by 6:00pm. Info: https://wbx.sce.com/oac6Rx. To stop reply STOP.

Just searching for Wrightwood on the SCE Outages page, it comes up with a different outage number but the same estimate.  Cause determined, crew on the way, fix by Tuesday:

Quote
Status: In Progress - Repair crew on the way
Reason for outage: Storm Conditions
Outage Number: 800485556

Just received email and robo calls from SCE

Dear Customer,

We understand how challenging it is to be without power, and we sincerely apologize for the continued disruption. Our crews are working diligently to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. The storm caused significant damage to our equipment, power lines and vaults, and the weather conditions are making it difficult for our teams to repair the impacted infrastructure.

Given the extensive repairs and the current weather conditions, power restoration may not be possible until Tuesday, December 30, but we are looking at all options to restore power sooner. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time. For the latest updates, please visit sce.com/outage.
