Lost & Found Dogs

If you have seen or know the whereabouts of a very adventurous large husky malamute mix.  She's a very loving dog, very cute and as you can imagine a big part of our family.  She's been given the nickname Houdini cause she keeps getting out and we even tie her up when we're not home.  Please, if you have any information let us know.  She may or may not still have a choker chain on, two blue eyes.  She answers to the name Hurley.  Yes, I've checked the fire station and they said they saw her earlier today but that's it.  Thanks for any and all help.

Found her!  Thanks to the Mini Mart pointing us in the right direction!  Oh, and to whoever let her off her chain, I think you're worthless.  You know who you are and so do I.

Why does the dog have to be chained???  Can't you reinforce your fences?  I have two huskies and put a foot of rocks on the inside and outside of my fence and they don't get out.  If you need any suggestions there lots of sites to help with keeping malamutes and huskies inside.  Have you though about hotwire?

Yea... I Dont Like Chained up dogs... Ive seen dogs hang them selves...

6' Chain Link Fence Post Every 8'-10' Dig 1'-2' Trench About 3"-4" Wide right inside the fence line then get logs or bricks and pound a 2' peice of rebar through it for the out side the fence... if that dosent work use hot wire! just keep the wire clear of plants and metal... if your dog gets out of that your in trouble! your dog is the smartest ive came across!

Glad you found your dog, but I am concerned that you keep a choke chain on your dog all the time. It is my understanding that a choke chain should only be put on your dog while you are in the process of training them. A dog should never be left alone while wearing a choke chain as it could catch on something and could be choked to death.

Siberian Huskies and mals need to be on a choke chain when they are on a leash but not tied out with one on... Big_Daddy  did you adopt your dog from a rescue or buy it from a pet store... just wondering

That's what I do -- I slip on the choke chain (on the dog, not me) when I'm walking my exuberant year-old Lab/Chow mix. He's areally strong dog and I'm a really small woman. When we get back home, off it goes... someday we'll manage to learn Heel, but for now all the the wonderful outdoor scents and sights are just too much for him. "Wow mom, look, there's another pile of dog poop, got to check it out, oh look, it's aMcDonald's bag, oh wow -- there's a SQUIRREL!!!!!"

Really glad to hear that you found your dog! I can't beleive someone would let a dog loose on purpose, that is really sad.

Guys lighten up on the chaining the dog out thing, you don't know this person's living situation, they may be in a rental or not in the position to invest alot of money into refencing their yard. Maybe it isn't the best solution, but all they are trying to do is keep the pet that they love in their yard. Which is more than I can say for some people in our town.

Perhaps a harness around the chest, back and belly would be the safest way to put a dog out on chain.   

If a HUMAN is UN-chaining the dog though... SHAME ON THEM!!!

Such a nasty, low-life thing to do, letting an innocent animal loose to wander!

Just a little fyi....my dog learned how to climb chain link and we had to get rid of her.

I was not coming down on anyone. 

Simply asking questions. 

I do not believe in EVER chaining a dog and that is my opinion.  Nor do I approve of it. 

If you make the committment to have an animal you should make the committment to take care of it properly and give it what it needs to have a quality, happy, healthy life. 

I asked if they needed ideas?  I WAS trying to help, provide a solution to the dog not being chained or getting lost again.  I am in the rescue business. 

Actually I bought the stuff for hotwiring my fence and did not use it, went with the rock stacking method. 

If you are interested BigDaddy I would give it to you to help you and your dog.  )

Hope you did not think I was attacking you.  KW and I have enough experience with huskies, mals and wolves, we may be able to come up with some alternatives for you to alleviate the chaining and escape issue..

Just for the record... I would never want my dogs outside on a chain. 

First off my dogs are too small to protect themselves if some other animal went for them. 

Secondly I fear that the little noodlebrains would get snarled up.

BUT a chain is better than a loose and roaming dog.  Not everyone has a fenced yard or even a yard.

Anyone know of someone with some land that wants 2 dogs?  2 years old sister and brother...  Mix husky/malamute/shepard.  They are both white and beautiful.  They live in Oak Hills and owner is relocating to Alabama in the city.  They have 2.5 acres now and are great loving dogs, I met them last week.  I have pics if you are interested...  Great coyote deterrers....
