Wrightwood, do you actually keep this whole website running on a generator when your power is out?
I live a couple blocks west of the school - no problems here today.

Most of our website data is located on servers in Florida. That includes the forum, photos, weather data, livecam images and graphics.

The weather station, most livecams and now the Live Scanner are located in Wrightwood and require computers running to upload the information. When the power is out in Wrightwood the data stops uploading until power is restored or a generator is running. Because of today's weather it was critical to keep the Live Scanner and Weather station data available so the generator was fired up and provided the needed power.

Yes, thank you.  I think we don't ever say it enough.  This is truly an awesome website and forum.  It has helped me to learn more about my community and even meet more neighbors.  Kind of like it makes this small town, a bit easier to become a part of.  Thank you.

Are the phones in WW currently down?  I get a fast busy signal when I try to call into town from OC.  None of the locals have posted in over an hour, so I suspect that the locals can't dial out and that the local DSL is down also.

Bummer ... I've got a phone controller connected to my thermostat so I can turn on my heat before I drive up the hill, but it's useless if I can't dial in!  Looks like I'll have to start a fire when I get there.....

I think that the phones are still down.  No answer on either the landline, or my wife's cellphone.

Hope all is well!

I've got the same problem - trying to dial Wrightwood from Sacramento to call my family results in a busy tone from my land line, and a "The T-Mobile wireless customer you have called is not avalible at this time" from my cell.  How stupid, they're Verizon customers!

9:18pm, finlly got a buzz off my phone telling me it picked up signal...Heard there was a cable severed in Phelan that knocked out all the LandLine Com structure.

First thing I thought of was that dam excavator in sheep creek at desert front clawing away....anyway DSL is up again after a 6 hour down time.

I'm in Phelan, a mile north of town. Our phones have been down also.

I am not sure about 911, but you could call within Wrightwood on your landline, so you would have been able to call any 249 number including the Fire Dept. from within Wrightwood.

Added note: since all 911 landline calls from Wrightwood are processed through the Com Center down the hill, they would not have been able to be connected since all out-of-town calls were down.

An advance fiber cable was cut in Adelanto and effected Wrightwood, Phelan and Pinon Hills area. It took 4+ hours to repair.

During that time all cell phone, land lines and Internet connections were down. 911 calls would not work. The only communications in/out of Wrightwood was Ham radio or satellite phones.

SB County Fire Com Center did have a satellite phone in route to Wrightwood Fire Station this afternoon.

As of 10:30 pm Verizon reports that all phone service has been restored.
