Yesterday I caught three young adults shooting BB guns at the head (beginning) of the levee--San Bernardino County land.  At the time, we had large groups of young children in the immediate area, so I approached the shooters and told them they couldn't shoot around there--they left.

Is there an ordinance regarding the discharge of such weapons within town limits or on county land?  If WW has Town Limits, how far do they extend up the levee?  Thank you!

Wrightwood isn't an official "town." It's unincorporated.
It's county land, private land, or, farther up the hill, federal land.

Pray tell, where should they shoot their BB guns???  Maybe we should get a BB shooting park next to the skateboard park!

Once on National Forest land:

Sec. 261.10 d parts 1 & 2,
(Discharging a firearm or any other implement capable of taking human life, causing injury, or damaging property as follows:  1) In or within 150 yards of a residence, building, campsite, developed recreation site or occupied area, or 2) Across or on a Forest Developement road or a body of water adjacent thereto, or in any manner or place whereby any person or property is exposed to injujry or damage as a result in such discharge.)

or:

Subpart B  Sec 261.58 m.(Discharging a firearm, air rifle, or gas gun.)

We have kids near us shooting BB guns.  I don't have a problem with it.  That is unless I start seeing dead birds, squirels, injured raccoons or windows with BB holes in them.  Then the $%@# will hit the fan.

LOL.  No kidding!

When I was in 5th grade I took to the hills of Riverside with some BB gun friends.  I shot my first and last bird that day...... I'll never forget the sound that little hummingbird made before he hit the ground.   :'(  Yes, deep down inside I am a wuss....

It has nothing to do with being a wuss.  It has to do with having respect for life.

That's the problem with kids using BB guns.  They almost always go from shooting at targets to shooting at birds, squirrels and anything that moves.

About 10 years ago, our next door neighbor at the time had his kid popping Stellar Jays out of the trees.  Both my wife and I went off on him.  A verbal thrashing I dare say he probably still remembers to this day wherever he is (probably San Quentin).  The kid had no respect for life but liked to kill things, a mentality I've found in some hunters... a " shoot at and kill anything I want" type of attitude.  I'm sure the kid kept killing wildlife with his BB gun, but he didn't do it anymore in Robin Circle.

Regarding forest land. Those rules are general forest land rules and are superceded by specific Angeles National Forest  rules which limit target shooting to specified official shooting areas. You cannot discharge a firearm anywhere in the Angeles other than concessionaire run official shooting parks such as Texas Canyon or Lytle Creek. Period.

The wash, it's not a levee, is not in the forest, it is county property. It is also posted no tresspassing. So the shooters may have been tresspassing and the kids in the area may have been tresspassing.

As Nolena said, Wrightwood is not a town and has no limits. But the private property extends well up the slope towards Blue Ridge where it eventually meets the USFS boundary.

Thank you for the clarifications.  I don't want to pretend to enforce rules that don't exist, but only regulate dangerous activities when our students are present.
