Title: Finding a Leach Field
Post by: BikingBrian on Oct 31, 07, 04:00:54 AM
How do I find my leach field?  I know where the tank is.  I'm looking at paving a driveway and don't want to pave over the leach field by mistake.  I know when I bought my place earlier this year, there was a septic report with a simple sketch.  I can't find the sketch, but I do recall the sketch wasn't detailed enough anyway.

I know that in our case, the leach field IS under the driveway.  At least that's what the sketch showed when we bought the house 4 years ago.

To that end, I want to eventually replace the concrete driveway with pavers, to be able to get more moisture down through the leach field.  The pavers are a better idea in our area anyway, since they won't deteriorate the way that concrete will.

But, that project is a few years in the future...

Our leach field runs through the back yard, and you can really tell because that's where all the grass and weeds grow so well. Do you have an area of your yard that tends to be greener than others? Not too scientific, I know, but that might give you an idea.

If the leach field was installed in recent years try contacting a few of the locals who installed them and ask. (Tony, Joe Frietas & Karen) They can show where it's at if they installed or repaired it.

Here's some generic info on locating a field:

Oh look, Leeches!  They got the names wrong though... their real names are:

Welfare Recipient Willy
Free School Lunch Freddy
Workmans Comp Wilbur
Frivolous Lawsuit Larry

Brian, just a thought you may try. When we were looking at properties and saw something we liked with no garage or driveway, we went back to the realtor's office and she would look up the locations for us. Fortunately, we finally ended up finding something we liked that met our requirements.

Since you recently made a purchase with the ink barely dry on the check, your Realtor should be willing to help you out. ;)

As I recall, the system had to be inspected before sale was completed, so if the realtor doesn't have a record, find out who did your inspection.
