Title: fishing
Post by: Nolena on Jun 18, 08, 06:27:13 AM
I'll be doing some rafting on the South Fork of the American River in mid-July.
I'd like to do a little fishing.
I'm thinking there might be some steelhead or striped bass that time of year.

Anybody got any tips for bait, line and pole sizes, anything else?

Nolena,

How cool is that; rafting and fishing on the American River.  What a blessing.

My daughter fishes a lot in the Sierra's and deep sea.  Matter of fact, she appears in the Western Outdoor News quite a bit.  I used to fish a lot but now I'm restricted to local lakes.  There are quite a few of us from WW that fish locally and do quite well with the trout.

Sorry, back to your request.  There is a site that has some information on fishing the American River; trout, steelhead and strippers.  www.theamericanriver.com/recreation/fishing/

I believe it also shows a map of fishing locations.

Have a great time.  Need a fishing report when you get back.

When I lived 100 yards from the Mad River in northern CA many MANY years ago--we used to use minature marshmallows and roe for steelhead.
