From the GS Corpe Collection are these photos of vision past:

Can you guess what this place is? "Is," you ask? Yup, it's still around.
What about this place; what was it "first," and what is it now?

Ah, Wrightwood Properties...what made the community what the community is today. What is this building today? It's a trick question...it was moved from this location and it has no connection with the building that is there today.

This one is easy; what intersection is this and what businesses exist here today. What's the present day business that ain't in this 1955 photo?

Here's a second hint to the very first question that concerned 'vision past;' can you name the place now?

RE: Wrightwood Realty
Is this the building that is now Mountain Hardware?
-
Graham, this is a GREAT game. Is #2 the Water Co. building?
-
Nope, sorry...but, ya get high marks for trying. Compare this photo to the last one to get your answer. Opps, of couse this particular building had gone through a little remodeling before the second photo was taken.

I mentioned before that these photos are from the GS Corpe Collection. Mr. Corpe and his family moved up here way back in 1937 and he sold property. His daughter, Pat Krig, still lives up here and is a published historican, her books are available for purchase at the museum. Pat and her husband Colonel Harry Krig, are both amazing folks that are a termendous source of information when it comes from learning about this area. Harry is one of my favorite docents that works in the mornings on the first Saturday of each month at the ol' Fire House Museum. If you really want to know about this mountain, please feel free to come in and ask him questions. While you are there, bring your wallet...Pat's books are a good addition to anyone's library.
I thank Pat for the opportunity to scan these photos for history's sake.

Too much snow on the first pic but with the addition of the fifth pic, I would guess Blue Ridge. Its the only place that I know that has a covered stair case. The second pic is where a present day real estate office is now located on Park. The third pic I would guess is now the Hardware Store. The fourth pic is where the Evergreen and Racoon Inn are now located.

Good job...what was the place before it was devlin's reality?

Let me guess.....an antique store... ;D

Wrightwood's first laundrymat

Is the first picture the pizza joint next to the museum?

This must have been one of the first meetings of the Willys & Jeep group at the Evergreen on a Saturday moring. Note the Willys wagon parked in front while Twyla and Larry were getting the coffee on!

In that 1955 picture, would Twyla have been serving coffee? She would have only been one or two at the time right? ;) Love the old photos and guessing which place it is now. Thanks Terri, it makes me want to dig up my copy of Pat's book again.

Here is my "guess"--in order of appearance:
Mile High Pizza
Devlin Real estate
A.V. bank
Pine's cafe--now the Evergreen [of course the raccoon]
Blue Ridge Inn

Only missed one, Hank...the best yet. The frst one is an older photo of Blue Ridge Inn... before the remodeling in 1963. The last photo of Blue Ridge was to help ya guess the first.
