It was the location of the two ski jumps on this side of the mountains, the area where snow play, jumping and downhill skiing began (here), starting in the 1920s.

Sepp Benedikter
Inducted in Skiing Hall of Fame in 1977
He dided on November 11,1982.
Sepp Benedikter played an important role in the United States as an instructor, skiing actor, consultant and ski tour promoter and ski area developer. A competitive skier from the age of 6 he amassed a collection of 200 trophies and was a member of the Austrian national team at the 1931 F.I.S. World Championships. He helped developed Holiday Hill, Blue Ridge and Rebel Ridge Ski Area (1966-69). He served a term as the President of the Far West Ski Instructors Association and organized several ski tours to Europe. He taught folks to see off season in L.A. on grass, not to mention water skiing off the coast. Sepp is seen standing here, next to a 200 (approx.) foot Toboggan run.

Anyone whose been here for 40 years should rememeber this warming hut at Blue Ridge. It was about this time when the Forest Service deemed this structure, and other shelters, unsafe...and ordered the hill to tear them all down. So much for the wisdom of the service. This warming hut was so strong and sturdy that it took days of battering it with a battering ball before it was finally knocked down.
