Additional Limestone Quarry information: Map of 1937 west portion of Wrightwood, CA
The Big Pine Limestone Deposit- Wrightwood, San Bernardino County, California -The Big Pine deposit was just north of Swarthout Valley in the northwest corner of T. 3 N., R. 7 W., S.B., near Wrightwood and the Los Angeles County line, and about 12 miles by the Lone Pine Canyon road from Cajon on the Santa Fe Railroad. The quarry location was identified as "Granite Orchard" on this 1937 Swarthout Water Company Map. It was owned in part by Sumner Wright. Nothing remains of the site. The Wrightwood Mormon Church and Sunrise Baptist Church now occupy the location. This site was one reason why the Trackless Trolley was started by Sumner Wright and others; the objective of the project was to transport limestone to a railhead in Cajon Pass and people back and forth to the community of Wrightwood and Big Pines to promote the area.
