We just saw a young bobcat cross from our yard on Cardinal Road, heading towards Flume Cyn. Keep your pets and kids IN!

Whoa! I read the thread and thought you meant a rogue snow-remover. . . glad I clicked on it!
-
We have one that lives out back up the hill and the raccoons and it fight over territory about once a month.

Neighbors told me there was a bobcat in my yard yesterday evening. Just before dusk so they got a pretty good look at it, said it was a fairly healthy looking cat. Near Acorn/Quail.
Searched for a previous thread but didn't seem to fit under those topics...

I wonder if its time for the kits to be born? Or are they on a year-round type schedule? Anyone?
-
One to six, but usually two to four, kittens are born in April or May, after roughly 60 to 70 days of gestation. There may sometimes be a second litter, with births as late as September. The female generally gives birth in some sort of enclosed space, usually a small cave or hollow log. The young open their eyes by the ninth or tenth day. They start exploring their surroundings at four weeks and are weaned at about two months. Within three to five months they begin to travel with their mother.[34] They will be hunting by themselves by fall of their first year and usually disperse shortly thereafter :Smileys:

We see them on an irregular basis but they are fairly stealthy and pretty well camouflaged. I noticed this one in the dead Pinon behind our house by the Ravens having a fit and flying about squawking.

At first, I thought it might be a Mountain Lion kitten but on closer inspection, his tail gave him away. Very healthy and a wonderful coat. He wasn't concerned in the least with my (or the Ravens) presence.

After an hour or so nap in the sun, he went off at a lope across the hillside.

While on my way to work this morning...around 5:15am driving on Upper Lone Pine Canyon past East Canyon, a Bobcat ran in front on me!

Saw this today...can't remember exactly where on ACH this was...not too far past Wrightwood. It ran across the road in front of us, then up that very steep scarp. It was just sitting on that rock while I finally got the camera to work...thought we might get lucky and have it sit there and stare, but it didn't like us :(

Very cool! I was looking back at Jim's pictures and was struck at how much the bobcat's face in the 1st picture looks like my Maine Coon. Of course, there is a slight size difference going on! :-*

Bob cat in our back yard around 4:00 on Finch

It always amazes me that these wild things are related to the tame kitty snuggling next to me on the couch.
