Title: Steel tower on east end of Table Mtn.
Post by: dancerrick on Jun 29, 11, 09:41:32 PM
Anybody know exactly how tall that platform tower is, or what it was actually built for? It's the one just above the original Table Mtn observatory, the Ford observatory, up mountain from the old corral. I was up there today and thought I'd scamper up to the top, but there were pretty strong winds and after going up 15 or 20 feet and feeling how the structure was shaking and hearing it rattle I chickened out and ran back down!

It used to have microwave antennas on it.  I believe it was a relay station.

That makes sense. There are big holes in the bottom of the top platform where things were obviously removed. Still curious how tall it is, I'm guessing 80 feet?
