Title: Guzzler montage highlights of the week
Post by: Wrightwood on Sep 30, 12, 03:57:27 AM
Observations: (Do you have any?)

- Approx 5.24 minutes video

- The flashes of light (at night) are from another trail cam. The trail cameras use black LED (940nm) technology so that the animal or intruder may pass by in the night and there is no illumination.

- Windy with young coyote extra skittish

- Coyote marks spot on rock

- Bobcat marks rock

- Hawk likes to bath

Is there a theory behind the bubbler/air pump?

As usual, thanks for posting the video.

This summer the guzzler has been cleaned and refilled with fresh well water every few weeks due to algae growth. One recommendation for helping reduce algae growth is pumping air into the water.

There's a few things that contribute to the algae bloom such as the guzzler sitting in direct sunlight much of the day. Another is wildlife defecating into the water as the nutrient-rich feces make algae problems worse. Yes it sounds gross but after reviewing a lot of video it is obvious that gray squirrels and hawks poop directly into the running water fall.

I so loved watching this. Yes, the coyote was skittish and looking around. I'm thinking that is what they do. As for the squirrels and the hawks pooping in it.. well, they're now toilet trained. Ya just need to teach them to flush.  I missed the coyote and the bobcat marking their rocks. Same rock? It was just lovely,, thanks for posting it. cheryl o7o

Thanks for posting these wonderful pics!  I just love the wildlife in our forest, and it's nice to see so many healthy animals enjoying the spa!   :2thumbsup:

P.S. Remind me to never take a drink of water out of that guzzler.....   :-X  ;D

It brings me such joy to watch these videos. Makes my day/week.  Thank you so much for taking the time to post them, and bringing me a greater understanding of the wildlife we are privileged to share this mountain with. I so love living here.
