Does anyone know if there's a trail down to Lupine Campground from Guffy? Not talking about the road. I want to know if there's an actual hiking trail. If so, where is the trailhead? And can you share the distance/gain/loss? Thanks in advance!!

I've always used the road.

There is no trail from Guffy down the southern side of Blue Ridge down into Lupine. You can take the road to just past the Heath Slide and hike in via the "Devil's backbone" trail that goes to the top of Pine Mountain, then hike down Pine Mountain Ridge (very steep and rocky) and meet up with the Fish Fork Trail that will take you down into the Lupine Area or you can use the old logging roads as well. We spent the night on Pine Mountain Ridge, but it was in August, 90 degrees and we had to carry all of our water. We got a ride out. I'm thankful we didn't have to hike back out. ;D
You could also start at Vincent Gap and take the gulch trail down into the bottom of the canyon and work your way up to Cabin Flat and then on into Lupine, but I understand that the trail is pretty much non-existant. But again, nothing from the top of Blue Ridge. The road is the best way to go.

Thanks. Wish there was something less steep than the road, but oh well. Thanks again!

Does anyone know if there's water in the little creek at Lupine Campground? Is there any water in the bigger creek that's west of Lupine, toward Cabin Flat?
-
All of the local drainages are experiencing record drought conditions. The creek near Lupine was always almost seasonal in good years. My guess would be it will be very skinny or dried up. The creek near Cabin Flat may have some water trickling through but nowhere near historical levels. I wouldn't count on it for a water source.

Thanks! Anyone been there recently? I'd love to hear from you!

Be the one....Get a day pack and carry some water. Go explore for yourself and report back. You'll be the expert on the creek conditions in the next vally. ;D Worse case scenario....you'll have a great day hike, see some wildlife and feel like a million bucks for getting out there.

And there are lots of elderberries and currants down there.
