Title: baby grey squirrels need new home
Post by: TaiChiMe on Apr 16, 14, 06:15:57 PM
Two very young grey squirrels showed up in my yard two days ago.  They are foraging, but have no fear and will come right up to me.  My neighbor found a dead adult squirrel in her yard yesterday and we think it was their mom.  They are TOO tame and TOO cute.  BUT I have cats that roam my yard.  I have kept my cats inside for two days but they are going crazy.  Does anyone want to relocate these beautiful creatures to a safer place????  I can catch them easily.  PLEASE!!!!!!

Thanks for trying to help our wildlife.  Please consider creating a safe place for your cats to be outside.  A screen porch with cat door access keeps my cats very happy.  Being on the porch allows them fresh air and sunshine without being able to kill our wildlife.  Pretty soon we will have baby birds that need time to learn to fly, without become cat toys.

We were able to capture the baby squirrels today without much effort and they were relocated to a safer area.  I will continue to care for them until they learn to care for themselves.  They have lots of Tall Trees to climb for safety as well as access to the bird bath and bird feeders as well as a wood pile to shelter in.  After they were released they hung around the area for most of the afternoon and even ran into a covey of quail and seemed to be very delighted as indicated by the swinging of their tails.
