I had the catalytic converter stolen from my 1994 Toyota 4Runner twice while I was living in Playa del Rey shortly before moving here permanently almost six years ago. It was a costly and time consuming experience. The first time it was stolen, I requested the dealer spot weld it in place. They refused saying they didn't have welding equipment. Imagine that! Couldn't be that that they knew I would be coming back. Could it?
The second time I had it replaced by a muffler shop and they spot welded it in place. I sold the SUV to my so,n and to the best of my knowledge, it's still intact. Coincidence? I think not.

I've welded ours after a friend had his stolen in OC and cost him plenty to get it fixed.

We've had 3 cars in our family stolen... A) 98'Honda Civic EX stolen from San Luis Obispo recovered in East LA 3 days later in a city parking area where the Meter Cop found the changed plates didn't match the VIN in the window.. taken was exhaust, muffler, catalytic Converter. Mike's tire repaired after we spent over $1,000.00 for new parts.
B) 1997 Honda Civic, just stolen from Chico Calif just last Sunday April 4th ....no recovery yet
C) 1989 Mustang....totally rebuilt/and customed out...stolen in Lawton, Oklahoma...never recovered....not even a piece...ouch, that one really hurt....
Actually, they all hurt, too bad so many are getting away with this crime!
