A week or two ago thieves stole gas by puncturing holes in vehicles at Big Pines. Not knowing, one vehicle was driven to Wrightwood Market to get gas and while at the pumps a dangerous hazmat spill occurred.
This morning a Forest Service vehicle was found up on blocks with all 4 wheels missing.

LOL (sorry!), the thieves left the blocks, yes? I'm (basically) law-abiding, I'm ignorant of such things... :-)

It's really sad that these thieves have targeted the Forest Service vehicles and caused several of them to be out of service having a direct influence on our ability to perform our jobs. The worst part about being a victim of crime is that it makes you feel terrible and it makes you feel that these criminals will stop at nothing. I feel like we were violated by these thieves and it is not a good feeling especially since something like this has never happened before. I wish everyone would be a part of the Neighborhood Watch Program and keep an eye out for our neighbors and report suspicious activity to the police.

Hey, I passed a cable & lock through my DECREPIT bike frame and trunk rack just to keep it from falling off...it never occurred to me to pass the cable through the equally DECREPIT wheels. Lesson learned. Hard to ride a bike sans wheels! Thieves and junkies will do anything to scam a buck.

Could this be just some kids thinking its funny? Why steal the wheels? The wheels on these are nothing to excited about. Why go through all the work to puncture a gas tank and get fuel all over yourself for 5 or 10 gallons? Why did they not just steal the truck? I guess like many of you, I am full of questions that will never be answered. I am sorry the forest service has to deal with this.

Mike, have you bought truck ties lately?

Yes, new tires can be 600-1k. But these are used tires. They can be had on craigslist for 50-300 bucks. I see they left piles of lugnuts. Hopefully some finger prints show up.

Time to put up cameras Ron. The station is so out of the way, with little traffic at night, the thieves have little chance of being caught.

yeah with cameras you could watch video of them stealing tires.
Doesn't mh have a night security guard? Perhaps there's a better place to park the vehicles.
