Funny! when I heard the thunder today, I was wondering.... Bet that was it.  Makes sense, goes right to ground along the probably wet outside of the tree. The big one looks like a squirrel got under the bark and ran up the tree, while bark flies off, cartoon style.

weird how there are no burn marks.
