Met this little critter today - about 10+ inches - and I wonder what it was and if this would be dangerous to us.

I would say - after googling a lot - a king snake, but I haven't seen any with red rings at the head and the tail.
And the size - - king snakes should be bigger, right?

That is a BEAUTIFUL pic of a king snake. And no, they are not venomous and in fact they will eat rattlesnakes.

Here's a couple topics that include King Snakes

I fairly certain it's not a danger to anyone..............now. ::)

Just caught that. That's a picture of a very dead and now harmless whatever it was. I would pretty much bet a paycheck that the snake wasn't making a frontal attack when it was killed. Jeeezo.

It's childish how scared people are of snakes. Scared enough to kill it just in case it might be venomous. If you don't like interfacing with wildlife there are plenty of track homes down the hill that'll lower your chances of coming across some scary monster living in its natural habitat.

Making me feel worse than I already do, huh?
Shuffling big boxes in the garage when one of those landed on him when he tried to get out of his hiding place.
Seeing him wind in agony without anything I could do was hard.

So sorry MerlinSilk. That would have been very hard for me too. :'(

Accidents happen. :(
You didn't try to harm it.
Be at peace.
