I, Chuck Franklin, have been a resident of Wrightwood since April of 2011. In August I joined CERT (community emergency response team) and became a division supervisor by the end of the year.
I graduated from Santa Clara University with a Bachelor of Science Commerce degree. I played professional baseball in the Philadelphia Phillies minor league system. After a knee injury I worked in the California Baseball Teams' front office as assistant to the scouting and farm directors.
I was a General Manager for two private ambulance companies, Courtesy Ambulance in the city of San Bernardino and Desert Valley Medical Transport in Victorville. For both companies I interacted with the San Bernardino Board of Supervisors.
I'm still not sure there is a need for a CSD in Wrightwood however I do believe that local government could be more responsive to a community's needs.
I hope to accomplish setting strong policies for the operation of the CSD now and in the future.. I would hope we govern for the benefit of the entire community.

Hi my name is Monica Ciccarelli. I moved up here a little less than 2 years ago with my family and we fell in love with this community. My husband Todd and I love giving back to this community. I am the commitee chair of one of the local Cub Scout pack and am a parent volunteer for the Walking School Bus. I have been a pediatric nurse for over 9 years.
I think the CSD is an amazing opportunity for our town to gain more control over how our tax dollars are spent. I also see it as an amazing opportunity to develop a more prominent parks and recreation department. I would love to see the CSD pass and encourage everyone to get out there and vote on March 7th. (**LA county residents is a mail in ballot only)

I'd like to know the candidates' thoughts on this this environmental issue:
Assuming the CSD comes to be, I would like to see more of a focus on using native plants in our parks.
Native plants use less water, support native birds and other wildlife, support butterflies (such as the monarch), and promote a natural and healthy ecosystem.
Many native plants are also fire resistive. Planted properly, natives can also be complements to fire safe gardening. As a member of the Firesafe Council, I have a plethora (and a whole lot, too) of information on this subject. We could make a permanent demonstration garden of fire resistive native plants.
I support the use of native plants in all new plantings, and in the replacement of existing ornamental/non-native plants if they die.
We could also add an element of education to the plants we use in our parks, labeling them and identifying their benefits on signs. This could make for an easy science field trip for our local school.
We live in a beautiful forest. We should support the natural environment.

You might want to make a list of non-native plants you observe in our area. You have brought up an important issue.

Nearly all of the plants in the parks are non-native.
