Title: Why is moving firewood such a bad idea?
Post by: Wrightwood on Mar 25, 17, 02:35:55 PM
Tree-killing insects and diseases can lurk in firewood. These insects and diseases can't move far on their own, but when people move firewood they can jump hundreds of miles. New infestations destroy our forests, property values, and cost huge sums of money to control.

Gets that much harder when our local forest has very limited fire wood allotments available anymore.  I always worry about the oak.

Unfortunately the high cost of those little 4-5 piece camping bundles you can buy locally, make it very tempting for folks to bring their own.  It's pretty doubtful that the flatlanders care much about our problems.

Ive seen people burned lumber scrap and pieces of old furniture.

To me this is no difference than transporting agricultural bugs.   Due to todays technology those kinds of fruit inspections arent so necessary these days.

And this kind of self policing really doesnt work but I dont see Trump hiring more rangers either.   So ....its good luck with all this.  ::)
