Update: Highway 39 is heavily congested with inbound emergency vehicles and residents / hikers & campers trying to evacuate, multiple broken down vehicles and people unable to leave, further units are trying to locate people in the OHv area and evacuate them. #ForkFire #Breaking

Fork Fire: Brush fire prompts evacuations above Azusa

AZUSA, Calif. (KABC) --
Evacuation orders are in place due to a brush fire burning more than 50 acres above Azusa on Sunday.
Angeles National Forest officials said the blaze, dubbed the Fork Fire, is located off of Highway 39.
Recreational visitors are being evacuated, and the public is being urged to avoid the area.
Forest officials said the blaze is more than 50 acres and 0 percent contained. Further details have not yet been released.

Fork Fire
Incident Overview
The Fork Fire was reported at 11:58 am September 9, 2018 on Highway 39 at the junction of East Fork Road. The Fire is currently 166 acres 0% contained. Forest Service assisted by LA County Fire Dept. CAL FIRE, Orange County Authority, Santa Barbara County and other fire service agencies along with CHP, Cal Trans and So Cal Edison. The fire progression was stopped utilizing helicopters, air tankers, dozers, hand crews and engines. U.S. Forest Service Law Enforcement assisted by LA County Sheriff's, evacuated hundreds of recreational visitors.
HWY 39 remains closed two miles north of Sierra Madre Blvd in the City of Azusa. Power lines in the area were affected, power has not been restored to the canyon. Today crews will continue to construct containment lines, extinguish hot spots, patrol the fire area and mop-up. Air tankers and helicopters will be available to assist ground crew as needed.

Interesting thing you see in the last picture is the road cut for one of the roads that was associated with the failed Great Forks dam of the mid-20s, if I'm not mistaken.
