From John Robinson's book "The San Gabriels: The Mountain Country from Soledad Canyon to Lytle Creek" he writes:
"In 1863 Almon Clyde crossed the ridge from Lytle Creek and filed a claim on the old Swarthout homestead in Lone Pine Canyon. Clyde built a ranch house next to a lone pine tree in mid-canyon (from whence the name Lone Pine Canyon is derived) and planted apple trees."

Ever hear of Wyatt Earp?! The ranch at Lost Lake is theirs, and as the story goes, thet had a stright shot going SE across the desert,a 3 day ride, to AZ, Mexico, and NM, the ranch is still there, the barn sinking,
