So I am trying to wean off Facebook groups but enjoy the local news that I get. This site used to be much more active, before Facebook. Could we all try to make this more active with things around our community like it was? I have always felt this site was moderated well and gave very accurate information.

This forum has always been great for accurate local fire, emergency and traffic news and is the first place I check for that info. With Facebook, the more urgent the issue the more rumors and outright misinformation you get.
-
Exactly! That is why I love this forum.
-
Well said twinkie. I've wondered where everyone went for awhile. So, it was facebook. I always enjoyed the just for fun topics but it went extinct.
-
Activity breeds activity. All we gotta do is start posting more regularly.

I too, enjoy this forum, not only for the accurate, reliable information, but also because neither politics nor religion are ever discussed. I can't remember if that is one of the "rules" for being a member of this group, but I definitely appreciate the way this is moderated. I do have a FB account because I enjoy keeping up with friends through pictures and learning about their happenings. But I cannot tolerate the politics and the anger and hate that so many seem to love to rant about. I always look here first for information. :2thumbsup:

Great thread! I also miss the exchanges we used to have in this group. I always check-in here with my morning coffee rounds. If there is a fire - this is where I come for the accurate and up-to-date info. Our discussion on the FP-5 tax was outstanding. We shared a lot of information and perspectives. Repealing it will be on the ballot in Nov.
I joined FB a year ago. It is all that I had heard it was and worse. I am active in the community groups for Phelan and Pinon Hills. The rancor that is displayed can really go over the top. There is often more mis-information than information. I have however met some new friends that are neighbors and that is the good part of it. I'm also back in touch with some old friends.
One way to help regenerate this group would be to refer to it in FB threads. Start a thread here that is also a hot-topic in one of the WW groups. If this group starts to discuss it and you let people know this group exists - perhaps people will check it out. Whatever and despite the lack of participation here - this remains my go-to place for accurate information in an emergency. I am grateful it still exists. My sincere thanks to Wrightwood and the other moderators for keeping it going. Cheryl o7o

John and Cindy, we really appreciate this forum. Thank you for all you do for Wrightwood. Miss seeing you Cindy!

I agree with all of you guys. I do check this page regularly but need to quit FB as it is angrily divisive, full of crap, ridiculous memes and reposts and just outright a waste of my precious brain cells. So I will check in on here more often!! Keep up the good work and thank you guys for keeping this page alive and civil.
-
Thank you all for your input. I am glad I am not alone. I am removing myself from FB groups for the same reasons you have written about and this will be my regular place to hang out again.
-
Were not FB people either and been here 15 yrs...we count on this site for accurate and up to date info. We check it daily or if a helicopter flys over!
Thank you for having it and stay safe everyone.

This forum is my go-to for accurate, up-to-date information on the important stuff that happens in and around Wrightwood. I am on Facebook to stay in touch with family and friends but check this forum every day, too.

It's been a long time since I've logged-in here, but it's always the place I check for reliable information. It'd be great to have it become more active again.
-
I hardly ever login but i check in quite often, I wish there were more people posting photos.
-
It is difficult to post photos here. I have yet to figure it out.
-
The picture/photo needs to be uploaded and shared on the Internet. One you have the picture/photo location the rest is not difficult.
-
Open an account at Flickr.com and you can upload 1000 photos without having to pay for a Pro account.
Once you have an account it is easy to share photos on other sites. https://www.flickr.com/

-
I can't help you with photo sharing with iCloud or Google, I don't use them, I recommended Flickr because it is probably the best site for photographers and it is also the one i use.
-
Imgur.com allows you to upload photos without an account, then you can just share the link.
-
Sorry, archaic and too cumbersome.
-
Archaic, lol. The architecture of this site (SMF 2.0.13) is from year 2013.

.... and you can still find important postings that are older than a few days (unlike Facebook)

Yes, thank you. You can add Instagram and Reddit to the list of sites that are a pain to find old posts on.

I guess we could adopt Facebook's protocol and start insulting one another. That usually generates posts. Judging from the number of posts the other day, ants also seem to generate interest. I love this site. We may no longer be as chatty as we once were but it is my 'go-to' site for accurate information when there is an emergency such as a fire.
Judging from the number of members and 'guests' that monitor this site during a fire - it is also the go-to site for a lot of people.
I don't care if the format is old Facebook et al ain't so great either. We don't take advertising that chases you from pillar to post and we don't have algorithms that make sure you'll see something that pisses you off. I kind of like that.
If you want to generate more interest - post stuff that's interesting. They will come. At least I will. So, keep up the good job. I love this site. Cheryl
p.s. We also have paragraph breaks. I love that too.
