Title: Question regarding the Sheep Creek Bridge project
Post by: tcaarabians on Mar 21, 21, 09:15:53 AM
Does anyone know if the bridge project at Hwy 2  & Sheep Creek was a County Roads or a Cal Trans project?  I'm interested in the funding source. Thx. Cheryl

There were two bridge projects.
The repair and widening on Hwy 2 at Sheep Creek was Caltrans.

At Lone Pine and Sheep Creek was a culvert even though many call it a bridge and was a SB County project.

Highway 2 and 138 are a state highways, and, therefore, is under the jurisdiction of CalTrans. Lone Pine, and other Wrightwood Streets are County Roads, and, therefore, under the jurisdiction of the County. For snow plowing, CalTrans plows Highway 2, and County Roads plows local Wrightwood streets.

Thank you both.  The Red Brennan group has a video out about the project and characterizes the entire project as a boondoggle that could have been handled by one guy and a bulldozer.  The video attributes the entire project to the Board of Supervisors.  I was pretty sure that Cal Trans had to be part of it.  Thanks again.   Cheryl

I tracked down the video.

It's not the bridge on Highway 2, it's the culvert on Sheep Creek, which is a county road.

Not sure if it's a boondoggle, but that project is taking a heck of a long time.

The video makes a number of assertions.  It's main focus is the road project.  It appeared to me that the video used showed both sections - the culvert at Lone Pine and Hwy 2.  Am I mistaken?  I don't know how to share it here. It's on the FB group pages for the Red Brennan Group and for Citizens of San Bernardino.  Cheryl

Drive up Hwy 2, upon entering town turn left at Sheep Creek, then turn left again where it ends at Lone Pine. You will soon reach a wide ditch that has been there for months. It's all good until the a major evacuation event...

It's actually been completed for a couple of weeks.  I've driven across it a couple of times.

The road is now high enough that it's going to take a lot of water for that to be a problem.

Well then, I cheerfully retract. I apologize if I missed the announcement on this forum.

Personally, I'm glad to have another way in and out of town.  Public Safety is a consideration.

LOL, that video is some high school-level debate club nonsense.  2021 has no time for backwards-thinking propaganda.  Red Brennan group, you be quiet.  The adults are doing the engineering, ok?

I for one am very grateful for the project. Can't speak for the price though.

It looks like someone got a really nice drone and needed to come up with a way to justify the purchase...

The Joe Schmoe Group for Ridiculous Misrepresentation would have tied a cell phone to a kite and saved many hundreds of dollars vs. their boondoggle of a drone.  Or....go climb a tree and take video for free.  But, see, they didn't do that because it's 2021 and we're not Neanderthals.

These people are 100% preaching religious beliefs.  Re-watch the video and in your mind, insert the words "the devil" in there a few times and it fits right in. ::)

Just wanted to add that the Lone Pine culvert project was also paid for with SB1 monies.  That information is contained within one of the links that Wrightwood posted.  There was evidently a cost-overrun (according to the video).  I don't know if that was SB1 or County General Fund monies.   Thanks again, Cheryl
