Title: Dump Cards
Post by: in my dreams on Jun 28, 22, 08:48:52 AM
I swear I read something somewhere that said we will no longer be getting dump cards. Is this true?

I was told WCSD will be sending them out today.   I know.    We need new ones as early as THIS Friday.

They didn't want to mail too early because people try to use them before 1 July.

There was talk about that happening in the Phelan area as a result of the new "food recycling" laws that are going into effect.

The state is requiring 'solid waste' separation of food waste & yard debris.  Wrightwood has an exemption.  Phelan & Pinon Hills our trash handled by the PPHCSD.  The original ordinance they passed, requires "curbside" (a loose term around here), home pickup.  There were protests at the meeting. The late Charlie Johnson, who died a week ago, pushed to allow continued use of the dump. It will impact around 3000 households if they don't continue allowing families to utilize the dump for trash disposal. Unlike Wrightwood, this area has not had recycling pickup. They also discussed eliminating the 'dump card' that we pay for with our property taxes. People could still use the dump and pay for it.  implementation of recycling and solid waste separation is scheduled to come online next year for residents.

The fee on our property taxes pays for the dump (transfer station) and what happens after our trash gets there.

In Wrightwood, we can opt for CR&R to take our trash to the dump for us, or we can use our dump cards to take it ourselves.

lwt42 - That option is what Phelan & Pinon Hills may lose. Hopefully, the CSD Board will listen the concerns and figure out a way to continue with the option. Wrightwood is on the exemption list due to its elevation.

My point is that the dump fee on our property taxes will stay the same with or without dump cards.

The PPHCSD was discussing the dump fee going away if they implement 'mandatory" home pickup.

How would mandatory pickup affect those who only come to their house in WW fur a week in the summer or those who are out of the country for several months per year on business?  I'm not quite clear on what "mandatory pickup" implies.

Mandatory pickup is not being considered for Wrightwood. It is an ordinance in the PPHCSD area. They have not explained the "self haul" language in the ordinance yet. It's not scheduled to go into effect until July 2023.
