Hello everyone. Name here is Bob. I moved to the north west side of Wrightwood this summer, from Lancaster. I was involved with most of the disaster type stuff in that area (DCS, Sheriff, MARS, local club, etc). Was a VE with our local club, although I let that expire when I moved up here. I currently have HF, packet, and 2m equipment, although the HF stuff is still packed in boxes, until I figure out what kind of antennas I want to use on the property. Until then, I'll just have to settle with the "rubber duck" on the radio.

Go to www.qrz.com and use 92397 as your search filter. You will get a list of all the hams in Wrightwood.

If you go to the name search, type in the zip code and it will show you a list.
I did it and I'm not there - and further investigation shows my zip code is wrongly listed. I'll have to figure out how to change that.

You show up in a search for WW but not you're not in the zip code list.

Cathy...The most important issue is, what information is on your license? If it doesn't match what your current address, PO box etc. becaused you've moved or changed data without notifying the FCC, you'll have to fill out another 505 form for an address change and submit it to the FCC. A 12.95$ processing fee could apply. You can more information on this from the Calif. ARRL dist. manager available on line. He's a good guy and will reply promptly. All of this is easily done on line to bring any changed data up to date.
You can't allways rely on QRZ or Buckmaster to keep up with address or name changes. They do keep up and post new licensee's though because they are on the FCC e-mail list for for "new licensee's only" and receive updates at an unusually slow interval. I've had QSL cards return because of this and contacted Bart about this. BTW, Bart has been replaced recently as Calif. Dist. manager and I can't remember the replacemnet's name. :-\

BTW, you must list both your physical address and P.O. box to be legal. FCC has to be able to inspect your station whenever necessary. SO, place physical address on address line 1 and p.o.box on line two. No one lives inside a p.o. box.

I paid $8 to change it - that's pretty embarrassing, putting down the wrong zip code, as accuracy is my job. And I even used to work at the post office, so no good excuse for screwing up!

Funky...I know that's what the study book says but that's not entirely true. FCC field agents need probable cause and evidence such as recordings or EFI documentation to enter your home to inspect your station, including a court order.
I've worked with field agents several times RDF'ing suspected broadcast violators. Even though we listened over the fence to the broadcast being re-transmitted, they could do no more than knock on the door and ask questions. If turned away they have nothing, because the suspects would just cease and desist and move the radio gear. It's a cat and mouse game with these types and they know it.
The FCC is very lenient in their licensing procedure. If you retire and sell your home, purchase a motor home and tour the country, then where is the station? People do this, establish a P.O. box, pick up the mail when ever, and it's recognized. I hold two other licenses, one is a City club license and the other a Govt. club license, and all that's required is a P.O. Box. Over the years as a VE and a VEC, I have processed maybe thousands of licenses and never has one been rejected because of a P.O. box as an address.

Anyway, I just renewed my license and after the mailing address box the form says "AND/OR" so I stand corrected. I must have been remembering some other gov't form like DMV (ugh) or ??

I have also noticed that the FCC is actually taking action against those who haven't updated their addresses and the FCC sends them a letter that comes back to the FCC. I don't think it is real common yet, mostly with those who have done something bad but you never know. I guess they really want current MAILING addresses so they can talk to you if you are doing something that makes them take notice of your operating procedures. Just don't have a wardrobe malfunction!!!

I kind of had a problem with them needing your TIN # but that's the Govt. way.
I guess they really want current MAILING addresses so they can talk to you if you are doing something that makes them take notice of your operating procedures. Just don't have a wardrobe malfunction!!!
They already know well in advance what you've been doing for month's. Trust me on that because I know first hand, which is how I got involved with an investigation. The interior of an FCC DFXing van makes mission impossible look harmless and a Lojack a toy. ;)

Anyone who needs to update their license info, renew, request a duplicate license, or a bunch of other things, can do so for free at the fcc.gov website by accessing the Universal Licensing System:

If you haven't used it before, you will have to register. Info is updated quickly and the dup license I got a month or two ago came in maybe three days or so. [When you register, you will get an FRN (FCC Registration Number) to use since they don't use Social Security numbers anymore. A handy place to store this little used number, in addition to your computer, is as an entry in your cell phone.]
