Title: T-hunt in town, anyone?
Post by: lagomorphmom on Mar 22, 07, 08:24:44 PM
Hi all,

With so many hams in town now, I think it's finally time to post a thought I've had for awhile regarding a T-hunt in town.

What I'm thinking of is something fun (yet competitive) similar to what I used to do with the Santa Clarita ARC. Time of day would be up to us, but they used to start out early evening with some very safe, simple rules:

1. Winner is by mileage not by time so speeding through town would not be an issue. If you have over-sized tires and supply a professional correction factor report, that is acceptable.

2. Hunt is within the confines of the city (we can adjust this as needed) and the transmitter must be heard from the starting point.

3. Transmitter transmits constantly, nothing tricky like on the quarter hour or if you ask you then take a point deduction.

4. You must find the actual transmitter which is usually hidden so you'll need to look for wire, the antenna, whatever.

5. There is a time limit, so stragglers eventually must be given hints and called in.

6. There is a time limit because everyone goes out for pie and coffee after!  :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup: :2thumbsup:

7. Winner hides the T the next time.

What do you folks think? If it sounds fun, pipe up, and we can think about doing it. They did theirs once a month, but I think if people do enjoy it maybe we could get together once a quarter or so. Once you've done it, it becomes pretty addictive because competition is more on the fox & hound aspect of how well you either hide or look for the transmitter - you can get pretty sneaky on what you do with the antenna to fool people into thinking that the signal comes from elsewhere...

Man, its been years since I did that kind of thing, but they sure were fun. Put me on the "interested pile"
