Is Lone Pine open?
-
Closed....
My wife went down and was turned around. You think they would turn people around at the top.
-
I'd recommend to stay clear of it this morning.
-
7:37 am - Still picking up some hot spots
-
awww man I didn't think to call and warn her until about 10 minutes after she should have left. Sorry!!!
-
Thank you to the gentleman who flagged us to alert us of the problem at the top of Lone Pine so we could turn around and take Hwy 2 to 138!!
Thank you very much, that was nice of you!
:2thumbsup:

How ridiculous that they can not put a person at the top and tell you it's closed!! Car flashing all the way, but hey I thought there was a cop. I tried stopping people going down but they ignored me as well.... So that cost 1/4 tank gas and made me late to work..... :(
Glad they got it out!!!!
Kudos to those that worked hard.......
Shame on CHP for not posting someone at the top to stop morning drivers.
-
Is there any indication of how this fire started?
-
Lone Pine Canyon Rd is now open.

Lone Pine Canyon Rd is now open.
And once again, all is well in the tiny town Wrightwood.....

Your new Forest Service Volunteers were on duty this morning. I too was turned around way at the bottom. I returned to the top and set up a road block where I turned around a couple hundred cars.
Thanks to Wrightwood for radio support and Artology and Boston Bob for bringing more flares and coming to take over.
-
Thanks Clint, for volunteering an hour and a half of your time. You not only saved many people the inconvenience of driving all the way to the bottom of Lone Pine only to be turned around, but you also saved hundreds of gallons of gasoline that would have been needlessly wasted.
-
So was it a car fire that started it? Richard said he had seen a man walking up lonepine away from the fire at like 415am. I was just wondering because it wouldn't be the first time we had seen a car start a fire on that road!
-
Sometimes there just are not enough officers to go around. Could have been a major TC somewhere else in their district at the same time. Fire Department doesn't have the staffing to afford dropping off folks to close roads. A minor inconvienence.
-
I just spoke with a Forest Service investigator and he said that a person was cited and will appear in federal court. The guy admitted to starting a warming fire.

I know the USFS Volunteer Patrol Rangers will step up. Great Job Clint, Artology, BostonBob and Wrightwood. I get the feeling that everyone in Wrightwood is going to step up for the betterment of the community this summer. It is going to take everyone's cooperation in being on watch for those individuals bent on starting fires that could be disasterous to our community and helping out when needed.

Thanks Clint, for stepping up once again to help out...We do appreciate you :2thumbsup:
