This is a photo from 2006 and shows Swarthout Canyon and where the fuel modification took place in Lone Pine Canyon.

(The photo with the smoke shows the prescribed burn.)

I'm at work at Edwards for another hour or two.  Looks like I'll have to use Big Pines Highway to get home.

What does "Hard Closure" mean?  Will they allow residents up the hill from the 15 and 138

Just for clarification. Is the fire on Swarthout Cyn (Dirt Road) East of Lone Pine Cyn? I know the winds are out of the SW? So is the threat to Crestline if the fire jumps the freeway? I am stuck at work and would like to know if I need to jump off my Truck and go home. Thanks for the update

Hwy 138 is closed between the I15 and Hwy 2.

Lone Pine Canyon Rd is closed from the end of Wrightwood to Hwy 138

I'm not an expert on this, but I believe that if you live on the route and have proof, they'll let you in. Otherwise, if you are passing though, they will not.

Just came down 15 to 138. Lone Pine is closed, CHP on-scene. Lots of thick smoke in area. Flames visible from the 15 before Cleghorn. 138 from 15 to Hwy 2 is open. However, 138 towards the 15 is closed, multiple CHP on scene. Looks like the Ranger station on 138 (Mormon Rocks) is a staging area. Lots of firetrucks from different areas were leaving heading towards fire. Radio said the fire started at the Lytle Creek campground. Lytle Creek is evacuating.  Said 300 acres have burned so far.

No they will not let residents through. The hard closure is a hard closure!

The fire has consumed well more than 300 acres.

Please keep the posts in this topic pertinent and backed up with a reliable source.

No more reports that I heard this on the radio or TV or from a friend.

Thanks!

No they will not let residents through. The hard closure is a hard closure!

So John, if you live in the West Cajon Valley and want to get home to get your family or pets out, they will not let you?

I would say the answer to that is yes.
The hard closure means that nobody gets through.

I just got off the phone with SBCFD Chief Dennen (who is at Mormon Rocks ICP) and he stated that they feel there is no major threat to Wrightwood at this time. The fire is headed north towards the lower portions of West Cajon Valley.
