Post by: SJN on Dec 08, 09, 04:07:53 PM
I was wondering if anyone has used those 5w LED floodlights they have at Mountain Hardware? What was your opinion of them? Thanks in advance.

LED lights are 21st century technology.  They save energy, the bulbs never need replacing (100,000 hour life) and save you money in the long run.  5W is a powerful LED light.

Read the below and find out more about LED technology-its amazing!  LED's come in several forms, but an LED is an LED whatever form it takes.

I haven't seen these at MH.  What are they for?

I like the LEDs but I do notice that the further away the LEDs are from what youre looking at, the more "diffuse" the lighting is.  IOW, in order to see something well, I need to keep the LEDs close to what Im looking at.

I purchased about 7 LED bulbs from Sams Club about 6 mos ago, two of them were floods. Half of the bulbs burned out within 3 months 1 of the floods burned out. They were very expensive, and I don't know why half of them went out, they were used in same type of locations/usage, indoors & out. I was really excited about the low electricity use, my guess is the technology is not perfected for home light bulb use, dont recall if the packaging said they last a long time or not. My CF bulbs seem to be lasting years, including the flood bulbs, though they take a little time to fully light up.

I also bought some from Sam's Club last year and they worked out of the package and within a 1/2 hour they failed.
