I know it's short notice but this looks like a excellent opportunity to hear about the latest in earthquake technology.
What We Have Learned about Haiti and Chile using Seismology and Space Observations with Lucile Jones.
Public Presentation on Modern Methods of Observing Earthquakes
At 8 p.m. on March 30, Caltech is hosting a special event in Beckman Auditorium to provide an overview of the results obtained by scientists analyzing the recent earthquakes in Haiti and Chile. Lucy Jones, chief scientist for the Multi-Hazards Demonstration Project for Southern California and visiting associate in geophysics at Caltech, will moderate a panel discussion with Caltech and USGS experts. The group will discuss what has been learned about those earthquakes through seismology, observations made from satellite systems, and field observations. They will also explain how in the future, space technologies could be used to improve the monitoring of earthquakes and help mitigate their effects.
