Are they having it every week? I only ask because I saw they were having it next week on the 29th right after the Wrightwood Communications Group's Ham Radio and Electronics Swap Meet.

Yes, they are having it for 8 weeks every Saturday night. There will be early bird games at 6pm, and regular games at 6:30pm.
Regular games are $15 for 10 games/6 up. They also have a couple of other games, like Double Action.
I've never played before; went tonight. There was quite a crowd so if you want to play, come early. They had water, sodas, pizza, hot dogs, popcorn, brownies, etc. so plan to eat while you're there. Prices were VERY reasonable.

Well I guess you didn't win big last night KW or we would have heard about it. ;) My bride wanted to go last night but by the time we heard about it, she had already started cooking something in the oven that was going to take a few hours to cook. Thanks for posting the schedule, as I thought it was only going to be once a month starting on the 29th. If you are planning to go again, we will probably see you there. Did you see Chuck there? I heard he got his new deluxe walker and wanted to take it out for a spin and show it off to the Geritol crowd.

Well, I probably shouldn't say this, but the requirement for getting in appears to be gray hair. I qualified, because mine would be gray if I didn't color it. ;D
I've never played before; I'm more of a slot machine girl with lights and action. This was a tad slower on the senses, but even so I don't think I could keep up with some of the people that play multiple cards. Those are the "daubing queens!" There's at least one winner for every game, but it wasn't me last night.
Regarding Chuck, there was a crazy old man who tried to get in. He had his walker all decorated with pages from old Playboy magazines, and a tall pink flag so Cathy could find him in the crowd. He was a little too rowdy, so they booted him out.

Yeah that sounds like Chuck, I guess Kathy was not as thorough as she thought in getting rid of his different stashes of magazines. I guess at his age his only excitement is getting kicked out of bingo halls. Just be careful if he decides to sit next to you as he has a nasty habit of dropping his teeth into your drink so you will let him have it and he does not have to buy his own.

The Lions Club is having bingo tomorrow in the Community Building from 12pm-1pm and from 2pm-4pm. They will take a break for the Mountaineer Day's Parade from 1pm-2pm. Come on out and support the Lions who do so much for our community. The games are all $1 per card per game and you can play as little or as many games as you would like. The games tomorrow are all just simple bingo games, none of that fancy stuff they have on their regular Saturday night games ;), so all you novices can win as easily as the seasoned bingo players.

I've been to my last bingo game. The announcers call the wrong letter so many times that it is rediculous. If they cannot tell the difference between a G and an O they should not be calling the game. Tonight the announcer called one number and put the ball in a different slot and many people asked what was the correct number.
If they are so blind or cannot read they should not be callinng the game ! :(

Come on NP cut them some slack. This is just a small hometown bingo game and not professional bingo. I think they are doing pretty good for just starting out. You are being way to hard on a non-profit that is trying to provide some local entertainment and raise some money for their many worthy projects, including our Wrightwood CERT that was sharing in tonight's proceeds.

I'm guessing NP didn't win ??? What kind of winnings were there? I know it's more about fun and socializing, but $$ are fun too.

Chuck, no NP did not win any games last night, but he does hold last night's record for most trips to the snack bar. ;)
The payouts ranged from $15 to $30 per game, depending on how many people played a particular game.
Attendance was pretty good, but I was expecting a full house considering that our local CERT was going to share in the proceeds.
NP, yes I have been to almost every local bingo session over the last couple of months. Chuck is still saving up his allowance in order to play and I think he only has a few more weeks to save and he will be able to attend his first bingo game. My guess is that they probably call out around 500 numbers for the 15 games that they play during their regular sessions. I would estimate that the error rate is usually less than 1% during the entire time I have been attending. That means their accuracy rate is around 99%. That's pretty darn good if you ask me and if you are looking for absolute perfection, you are a member of the wrong species.

Since you were there last night you heard the person yell, "put on your glasses." And since you kept track of how many times I purchased snacks you should understand that I am supporting Lions Club in that way and since I bought cards for Early Bird and regular bingo, I supported that function also. You probabley saw me walk out in disgust when there were two or three games left in the evenings games.
As far as wrong species, I am the same species as you are.
I have been to every session, I believe, of the bingo games held this season.
The announcer has the ball containing the letter and number printed on it in their hand at the time of the call. To male the wrong call is irresponsible in my opinion.

NP, you misunderstood my comment. I did not mean to imply you were a different species, my point was that we are human and therefor make mistakes. I also applaud you for supporting the Lions Club.
You may not realize it, but your comment was hurtful for the Lions Club members that were working last night. They are all unpaid volunteers doing the best they can and still learning how to run the bingo sessions. They were also shorthanded because a couple of members could not make it last night to work. I totally disagree that a few missteps amounts to irresponsibility. I think they have done a great job and provided some much needed entertainment for our community. I'm thinking that the heat can make people irritable, because expecting perfection is not realistic. I know I would make a number of mistakes if I were reading the letters and numbers off of a ping pong ball every 13 seconds for 3 1/2 hours. If you think you are capable of reading 500 bingo balls without error, maybe you should sign up with the Lions and volunteer to be the bingo caller, I am sure they would welcome the help.

I attended a meeting of the Lions thinking of joining them. The Lion roar at the begining of the meeting convinced me that this club was not for me. I have still supported them since then. Had I wished to become an announcer for the bingo I would have applied tor the job but, since I do not want it I will not try to get it.
Maybe all they need is more light at the stand and a lighted magnified viewer up there.

The bingo last Saturday was my first time, and it was a lot of fun, just as a small town recreational bingo game should be.
I was surprised by all the variations on the simple game, and I really appreciated the help of the other players explaining the games to me. I plan to go again.
I agree with the comment about 99% accuracy, the lady who called the game did a fine job.

Bingo on Saturday, July 9 with proceeds going to the fund for the purchase of new rescue equipment for Station 14.

The much needed rescue equipment has many uses and especially in over the side recovery. Accidents-Snow players-Skiers-Hikers-Etc.
Here's a recent TC on Big Pines Hwy where a helicopter had to be used to lower equipment to rescue workers and could have been done with the new equipment.

Is there a printed schedule on when Bingo nights are? Is it an appropriate place for a 6 and 8 year old to play along? Or is it geared more for adults? I wouldn't want to disrupt the atmosphere for the established players. :)

Timberline Lions holds Bingo on the second Saturday of each month
starting at 6:00 at the Wrightwood Community Center. You must be
18 to play, and the minimum to play is one 10 pack (10 games) for
$10.00. Snacks and softdrinks are available for a reasonable price, and
coffee and tea are FREE. There are also super door prize drawings.
It's lots of fun!!!!!

Thank you. Another newbie question... I've never played real bingo like this before (only with my kids at home). When you say "10 pack," I'm assuming that's 10 cards. Do you play them all at once? Are they reusable?

A 10-pack is ten different games, and on each of those 10 cards you play 6 bingo cards at once - not at all as hard as it sounds! So for a $10.00 investment you can play all night :) (Also did forget to mention that you need a $1.00 dauber-the thing that marks the cards) Don't worry.....we LOVE newbie questions.....

I know this one is for those over 55, but I've been wondering about the general bingo nights -- are little ones encouraged to come? I think my three-year-old would have fun, but would a toddler be annoying?

First - no the June BINGO is for everyone to play - not just over 55ers. The Timberline Lions Club is
partnering with the Senior Breakfast group, which means we split the profits with them 50/50. The more
people come to play the higher the winning pots are, and the more profit for the partnering group.
Since BINGO is classified by the State of California as gambling, you have to be at least 18 years of age to play.
By law, those under 18 aren't even allowed to be in the room while games are being played. But that is a
fascinating idea - to hold a "non gambling" BINGO night during the summer just for kids and parents to play
together - I will have to look into how we would be able to do that. THANKS for the idea!!!

Glad I asked! We have Animal Bingo (http://www.amazon.com/eeBoo-ANBING-Eeboo-Animal-Bingo/dp/B000JYI8VA) and she loves it. So every time I see the post I wonder about taking her. Hope you do a kids night sometime, we'd definitely go!

Play Bingo on Saturday evening and help to raise funds for the 'Gathering of Friends over 55' monthly lunches. Everyone over age 18 is welcome to join the fun at the Wrightwood Community Center.
Bingo is held the second Saturday of each month and is hosted by the Timberline Lions Club. The Lions donate half of the proceeds of the evening to each Saturday nights' partner group. Doors open and cards will be on sale at 5:30 p.m. and games start at 6 p.m. sharp. Tasty refreshments and beverages are available for sale.

There are people who attend who don't read the forum. Summertime support is always high and partners benefit, as do the Lions. Other than for snow this hasn't happened in three years. What is the reason for cancelling Bingo two days before the function?

BINGO tonite (May 10) at the WW community center hosted by the Timberline Lions Club. Games start promptly at 6 p.m. and usually go to about 9 p.m. (15 chances to win). Hot dogs, beverages, nachos, brownies, etc. for sale. Generally a fundraiser for another local group in addition to the Lions. Bring a friend!

Sorry to say but BINGO planned for Sat. January 9 in Wrightwood has been cancelled due to illness of the 'man behind the curtain.' The Timberline Lions Club apologizes for the cancellation and hopes to see everyone in February.

Nolena - I think that since there is so much ice associated with this storm the Lions Club decided to cancel for safety reasons as well as possible low numbers in turnout.

Last time I went to bingo it was on a Thursday night. I usually see it advertised on the big video sign on the corner of hwy 2 and Park, but have noticed the signs been off a lot recently.
Is bingo still happening on Thursdays? If so, what time and what is the cost?

Saw on this page that it starts at 4pm. I always remember doors at 540 and games starting at 6pm.

July 4th is the first Thursday of the month. Normally that is Lions Club Bingo.
Does anybody know if they still plan to have Bingo on the Holiday? We always look forward to it and are hoping it will go as scheduled on the 4th.
