Here we go again!
http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles
Wrightwood and Makgirl turned me onto this last year. (Thanks!)
It couldn't have come at a better time as I had just severely sprained BOTH ankles during the annual clean up of pine needles and was confined to the couch for weeks.
Momma Eagle is on the nest right now, with the expectation that tonight may produce the first egg. If you haven't witnessed this before, do yourself a favor and check it out. It's amazing, and addicting.

YIPPEE!!! I still have that website on my favorites toolbar. Thanks for the heads up, YB! :D
-
MOM JUST LAID THE FIRST EGG!!!!!!! Must have just happened, because the webpage isn't even updated yet! EXCITING!!!
6:00 pm Official time of first egg: 5:47 (our time), so I caught one of the first glimpses. Since childbirth is taxing, no matter who or what you are, mom is doing a literal faceplant right now.
Likely next egg in 2 or 3 days.
-
Dad is taking his turn on that first egg....Mom has been gone a long time....getting herself something to eat....Dad is doing a great job....but there is nothing that can replace MOM.....

Mom getting ready to lay egg #2 (E2) dad just brought her a headless fish...TUNE IN NOW!!!

Mom looks like she's getting a few zzz's right now
-
Number three on its way NOW!!! Check it
She actually had the 3rd one at 6:05 our time....right after I posted above. Her labor was pretty obvious this time. As one person said on the chat, "now you know what it means to be EGGAUSTED...."

Great zooming/panning shots right now. Never will you see such up close and personal shots of this magnificent bird and their surroundings!

Only another week or so before the eaglets are due!
-
First hatch is expected between FRIDAY, MARCH 23 and SUNDAY, MARCH 25TH!!!! Less than a week away! Stay tuned....I will post my irritating updates as events unfold. :2thumbsup:

I love irritating updates! (about the Decorah Eagles) :2thumbsup:

This site is very interesting. However if you are getting very tired of the constant commercials, as I am, you might want to try:
http://www.nps.gov/chis/photosmultimedia/bald-eagle-webcam.htm
There are two different nests and the 2nd one has night vision.
Also I should add, these nest are located in the Channel Islands, off the coast of Ventura and Santa Barbara.
-
I don't mind the ads...I just walk away & they're short. I feel like this is my family...couldn't leave now.... we're about to see the first hatch! Yippee..and there's just something about Iowa, these birds and this nest. It's so amazing and in the mornings...Video tech takes the time to scan around and look at the whole farm, river, other birds, get real close up of Mom and Dad in nest..oh so breathtaking!
I love this site.
-
I don't see ads, how long does it take for one to come across? (I'm using Firefox with the AdBlock extension)
-
ok, window is open for 1st pip. Just ordered tee-shirts for yardbird and myself. Now we have a uniform to wear while watching! I know, dumb, but we are hooked.
Get on and leave it up. Takes a lot of "bandwidth" I hear Rennman say, but I don't care. Apparently neither do the other 32,000 people watching....

Nice shot of eggs just now. Volunteer camera crew is ON IT! I think first pip will be TODAY. Bandwidth, schmandwidth, get on and leave it up.

WE HAVE (at least) ONE PIP!!!! Just saw it 10 minutes ago when dad got up from the nest. It will be 2 maybe 3 more days before the first egg fully hatches. Sooooo exciting!!! Check it out everyone!
-
Just saw parts of the pip's little body coming out of the egg. :2thumbsup:
-
Absolutely adorable!
-
D12 is born! Took less than 24 hours this time- 65,000 people watching, JOIN US

There is a headless fish in the nest right now. Dinner is served! Check it out.
-
Just saw a second egg with a pip - new hatchling tomorrow!!!
-
So awesome watching first hatch, then little one moving in nest when Dad got off. I bet it will be fed today while hatch #2 occurs. Hope the Iowa winds die down..so much swaying of the nest. :2thumbsup:
-
D13 has hatched! So now there are two...Mom just brought dad another headless fish (yum!) and when they did their "nest change," the two newest editions can be seen. Mom MIGHT feed D12 today, but maybe not...he/she looks hungry though.
LOVE THIS! and you will too! Get on there!
http://www.ustream.tv/decoraheagles
p.s. Yardbird, where are you????
-
D12 just got fed for the first time! FANTASTIC!!
-
Dad brought mom a squirrel ... check it out, D12 is HUNGRY! Now's a good time to look....
-
Mom feeding the babies early this am...3rd egg still has not hatched. :( No pip on it yet either! The other two sure are hungry. Check out the new furry bobble heads!
-
As Yardbird said...."and then there were three!" 3rd one hatched overnight and has some catching up to do. Looks like he/she can handle his/her own so far.
This is the cutest time. Check them out, being fed all the time so plenty of opportunites to see them.

Being fed right now. Looks like rabbit.
-
Great eagle watching. I just caught up on the time lapse hatching of #3. I love that they post video highlights as well as the live stream.
-
Ewwww, dad is defeathering a crow he brought in... "eating crow" literally!
hmmm, may be a coot, not a crow...ewww either way
now folks think it maybe a "grackle"
-
Fish for dinner, but parent blocking the view. Not fair! :)
-
Over the weekend, they had what appears to be the biggest fish day ever! Mom and Dad brought a total of 10 fishes (no loaves)!
Check 'em out today- they still have those clown feet and wings they can't control. Amazing creatures!

Nice zooming camera work this morning showing the detail of the eaglet's feathers coming in. Their heads look like dandilions before you blow the seeds off. Wow, are they something!

Sad news on the Decorah Eagles facebook page:
"We are very sorry to announce that D12 is dead. D12 was found electrocuted at the base of a power pole on a Sunday morning. We notified the power company, who modified the top of that pole on Sunday and several other poles in the area on Mo...nday. As of this morning, they are continuing to identify and modify poles to make them raptor safe. If you find an electrocuted raptor or other bird by a pole, take it to the nearest wildlife center (if it is still alive) and contact your state DNR or local game warden and the utility company that owns the pole."

That is so very sad. When you watch them grow up, it really makes it personal, and this stuff must go on all the time.

6-10-12 - D12 on the "Y" branch.

That is so sad. I watched that baby hatch, get delicately fed tiny pieces of meat by huge parents, quickly grow into a huge eagle exercising her wings. I watched those amazing parents take such good care of their three babies through snow storms, and high winds. There is a great video of mom in the nest with her nearly full size babies during a sudden downpour. All three babies start flapping their wings and the same time. Mom is getting bashed from all sides and getting soaking wet. She patiently stays until the rain lets up.
It was good to hear the power poles were quickly fixed so other birds don't suffer the same fate.

D12 made the Yahoo news http://www.grindtv.com/outdoor/blog/34069/young+bald+eagle+from+famous+iowa+nest+is+found+electrocuted/
-
"Since fledging, all three have remained near the near the nest tree and the power poles."
Yeah, but what about mom & dad? Can you imagine it happening to one of them???

And there is this:
DECORAH (KWWL) - It seems the Decorah eagles may be getting tired of the spotlight.
The Director of the Raptor Resource Project, Bob Anderson, said the Internet-famed birds are building an alternate nest.
The new nest is just a few hundred feet from their current one. Anderson said it's pretty common for eagles.
He says he doesn't know which one the birds will use for the upcoming hatching season.
If they do move, he says the live video stream of the nest that millions have watched over the last two years will not be possible. Anderson says the Raptor Resource Project will do its best to provide photos of the birds' progress from the ground.
