Thanks for all your hard work in producing them, Wrightwood.
How about Vincent Gap area next, huh? That's not too far from WW.

Nice shot of the San Gabriel Mountains, California.
This Landsat Thematic Mapper was taken June 10, 1997.
What is real fascinating on this picture is how Wrightwood slide areas
have deposited on the desert floor over the years. (large V shape on the right)

During a conversation with Fire Marshal  Brierty he mentioned SB County as being equivalent in square miles to at least one of the east coast states.

Here's a map that shows how big San Bernardino County is:

I agree .the lanstat image is awesome . the fan on the right is from big rock wash.

No. The fan on the right is from the Sheep Creek wash coming out of Wrightwood. That's deposit from the mass wasting at the top of Heath Creek and Sheep Creek. The north end of that flow is El Mirage dry lake. That makes Wrightwood very easy to spot on satellite imagery.

THAT...would explain why my house is in a "flood zone".  I thought the flood zone status came from the little natural "water flow" that ran along one edge of my property.  Makes more sense once you get the BIG PICTURE.  Thank you Wrightwood for the link.

Does anyone know of a map that would show the N4, Largo Vista area with side roads to get back to Phelan Road as quickly as possible? Thanks,

Title: Local Maps
Post by: Iris on Mar 28, 08, 05:58:08 PM
I am looking for a resource for local maps that will show me the areas west of Acorn. I am searching for a missing dog that went into the area behind the Mariastella Camp Lodge on Acorn.

I know that I can go up Acorn and head East towards Sheep Creek Wash, but would also like to see what is in the other direction. Such as, could he have gone West towards the LA county side, etc...

Thanks.

Thanks Wrightwood for the map.   I could have used something like that a couple of weeks ago.   Some friends went camping there and I was to pick up one of them in the middle of the night.  (She was afraid of bears).   I failed to find what campsite they had and thought it was small enough that if I circled I'd find them.    I circled for over half an hour and got nauseous and gave up.

There was no camp site map at the entrance and I swear I passed one tree at least 5 times.   Does anyone know if there is a Table Mountain Campsite map online?

Big Pines Recreation Area

It shows the road to Lupine from Guffy as closed.  I believe the road is open right now.

It does show "Walk-In Only" at Lupine.
The map is dated 5/2005 and I believe that was the year the road became in- passable.

It's definitely impassible down to Cabin Flat.  In fact, it's a pretty tough go now-a-days to even walk down to where Vincent Gulch and Mine Gulch come in.  However, I've read two relatively recent (less than a year) postings that talk about driving down to Lupine.

Angeles Forest has kept the road down to Lupine (3N39) open during summer-fall months, since they reopened it a couple years back (after years of fire rehab). However, when it was first reopened, it was blocked by large trees due to hazardous conditions and the following winter the road was washed out for good and no longer passable to Cabin Flat.

What a shame as the road to Cabin Flat was incredible. (watch for bears)

Thank you RobertW.   I could have sworn it was at least 10 times bigger from my estimation.   Maybe I was just driving in circles.    Why don't they have a camp map at the entrance?   Most camp grounds have an iron Ranger so late night arrivals can put money in an envelope and select a camp spot and set up.    They usually have a small printed map and a bigger laminated one on a cork board.

Now my friends want to camp at Blue Ridge and I'll have to find the map for that too.

Wow.  Nice.  I don't suppose you have something like that for Buckhorn Campground, do you?
Title: Interactive Village map
Post by: Naughty pines on Sep 14, 09, 06:00:43 PM
Is the interactive map showing the businesses in the village still available? The one where you click on a spot and it tells you what is and the address and/or phone number.
I used to have it but I lost it through a couple of crashes and would like to have it again.

San Andreas Fault Map - Zoom in for a Closer Look!

Thanks for the map Wrightwood.  That's great information.  Our cabin is 2.5 blocks off the fault-line there, and here, we're about 30 miles away.
We were in WW when the Northridge quake took place (6.7 on Jan 17, 94) and our place was dancing.  No damage but a real wakeup call.  The cabin was bouncing so much that our chandelier chain had "slack" in it.  I'm still amazed that our neighbors' rock chimney was still standing.
