It is wild Buckwheat. All of the flowers have cured out and turned brown.

Thanks. I looked at some sites. I couldn't find an exact match but the closest one was buckwheat. It's all over the place and asked dozens of hikers, nobody knew... had to have a name! :)

In October 2007 a wildfire ignited by a 10 year old boy paying with matches quickly grew out of control due to the powerful Santa Ana winds. The first fire engine on scene from LA County Fire gave a grime initial size up and fire prediction for a major incident. The Captain wanted to name the fire the Buckwheat fire and tried several times to relay this information the dispatcher who got it wrong and it ended up being named he "Buckweed" fire. The Buckweed fire charred 38,000 acres in Santa Clarita and Aqua Dulce and destroyed 21 homes.
