From Facebook: Friends of Big Bear Valley and Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam
7 January at 14:12
We are all very sad to report that the egg Jackie laid yesterday was preyed on by ravens this afternoon while Jackie was away from the nest. Shadow has not been seen at the nest since yesterday morning. We do not know why he was not coming to help with the egg, but there is no cause for concern at this time. There is a possibility that Jackie will lay another egg within a couple of days. The only thing we can do now is observe.

I just looked at the cam from the first post above. What an incredibly beautiful bird! That must have been Jackie. That nest certainly doesn't look very comfortable! I sure wouldn't want to sleep on a bed of twigs!

Was just watching and 5 minutes ago Jackie laid another egg.
Let's see if this image works:

3/24/21 Update: We are sad to report, after egg 1 began to hatch, it appears that sometime during the day on 3/19 the eaglet passed away. The remaining egg is now 40 days old and will be 41 later this evening. Though we are still in the window of possibility for hatching, with each passing day it is less likely. We will continue to observe, but sadly we believe by Friday that window will close. We do not and cannot know why any of this happens. It is nature, operating in its own way, without explanation.
