Update #HogsbackFire: ANF Fire Chief reports firefighters making good progress towards containment. Very dry vegetation, low humidity, gusty winds. Currently no injuries or immediate threat to structures. Fire began at 9:25am near Mt Baldy Road.

The #HogsBackFire burns along #MtBaldy Road Thursday between the tunnels and village. No structures are currently threatened. All traffic is being turned around at Shinn and Mt. Baldy Roads. More info

The 'largest' of the fires is being renamed the #OakFire & now has its forward progress stopped, cancelling the aircraft but continuing the copter. #CleghornFire

#CleghornFire - Co referred to one of the fire as the #AlrayFire.

Note: Assume this means that SB Co Fire is referring to one of the fires as #AlrayFire for purposes of assigning personnel and equipment between the three different locations spread out over 3+- miles.

Maybe the #CleghornFire #AlrayFire #OakFire are the 3 different fires. Unknown, but apparently it turned out to be a near nothing for all 3, as units responding have been canceling. #CAFire

Note: Sounds like it is all being handled. Final update unless something changes significantly.

#SpringsFire (Angeles NF, LA County) - Copter 18 reporting 20 acres & that the south side of the fire will burn into the snow. Eastern side will crest the ridge soon & start backing down towards structures. Potential for 1,000-1,200 acres. No divert approved for just 2 tankers.

I made good use of the Bobcat Fire post for the links to Broadcastify, and FlightRadar24. There was no air support yesterday, and listening to the fire radio, there was no need or desire.

So far, today is pretty quiet.

Using those sources seems to be the only way to tell things are winding down.

Post by: tcaarabians on Apr 07, 21, 12:45:51 PM: I checked the cameras at Alertwildfire and flight radar yesterday too. There were helos up circling the fire location. There was another helo over NW of Mt. Wilson. I'm guessing spotters but don't know. The wind is up again today. I'll likely check the cameras a few times. This site, bar none, is the only one that has consistent and accurate info during fire emergencies. I thank all of you that contribute to the effort. Our local emergency PIOs should use you guys as an example of what is possible to keep the public informed.

She posted some great pictures of air drops from the tankers and they have lots of hazard reduction and defensible space on their property..

If the fire burns past the Angeles National Forest (ANF) border, then that portion of the response is considered Federal.

You probably are getting drift smoke from the massive fires burning in CA, Ore, NV and even as far away as British Columbia. Bad news y'all. It looks like the wildfire smoke is headed our way today and Tuesday. Most of the smoke will be higher up in the atmosphere and not near the surface. Expect some of those brown, hazy skies the next couple days, especially on Tue.

Air Quality Index values are all over the place, depending on whether we are getting an onshore flow (they call it the "Delta Breeze", or offshore/downslope winds.

Now with the Caldor fire, it is unrelenting.

SoCal Edison sent up two heavy-lift Chinook helicopters, plus support/spotter helicopter, trucks and personnel to assist on the Caldor incident.

Post by: Joe Schmoe on Aug 21, 21, 09:24:59 PM: We were up near Islip Saddle and spotted a stack of cut-down trees from the Bobcat fire. One caught my eye as especially big, and old. I made an attempt to count the rings and I stopped at 80 rings out from the center. From there, probably a third of the radius of the tree remained to be counted. From there on out the rings were so small I would have been there quite a while and would have needed a magnifying glass. I'd estimate at least another 50 rings. What was striking was that the size of the rings pretty accurately reflected what we know about climate change that started around the industrial revolution. The older rings were 2-3 times the size of the rings of the last 50-years or so. It wasn't clear how many trees were represented in the pile there, but the pattern was similar in each length of timber. I suppose they could have grown in a clearing caused by a fire, but I'm going with the rainfall correlation.

Probably the most neat thing was that, after being cut, one of the trees (these are probably near 3 feet in diameter) fell in a way that the unmolested core of the the tree, from when the tree was roughly 5 years old, protruded from the rest of the log a bit where you could touch it. You gotta wonder what the forest looked like 125 years ago.

The #SouthFire started making a run this afternoon on the east side of Lytle Creek Road.

It is putting up significant smoke and is in extremely steep terrain along power lines. Water drops are difficult in this area.

Hwy. 2 runs directly through Wrightwood. When flames come up from Lytle Creek, they'll sometimes top a ridge by Pinon Mesa (the neighborhood, not the school), which is in sight of the 2. I'm guessing that's what they're talking about.

Where does one look to get the information below that you posted? Do you have to have a scanner or something or is there a website on which this information is posted? I smelled fire since very early this morning but nothing was on Wrightwoodcalif yet. I would love to know where else to look when I smell fire but no one else in the community is awake yet :)

This site is better than everything combined if we have a fire to worry about. There were an unusual number of small fires this morning. There were two more in Phelan after I posted my previous.

The consensus seems to be the smoke everyone is smelling is from the northern fires. Cheryl

Pulse Point is a good tool and shows dispatches but not necessarily active fires. The call may turn out to be "unable to locate" or a "warming fire"
