Looking back on the first indication that a critter was visiting our 2nd story deck was scat being left behind. During snowfall in Dec I noticed what I thought were male pine cones on our 2nd story deck. (If I'm wrong on what these are called I'm sure it will be pointed out.)
When I tried brushing them off the deck with the snow shovel it became apparent that animal had been present on a regular basis.
The Ring Tail Cat visiting is munching down on a Suet feeder for about 10 minutes at a time, then drinking water out of the small fountain for 2-3 minutes. The Ring Tail then returns back to the Suet feeder for another 10 minutes. On reviewing the video tape this went on for a full hour before leaving. It also appeared that the Ring Tail Cat climbed the roof before dropping down on the deck.
Make sure if anyone out there follows the hot tips given by the Mountain_Witch, you're prepared for what might take place. She never once mentioned that Suet Feeders are a favorite of Wrightwood Ring Tail Cats

The scat left by this Ring Tail is approximately 1" - 2" in length and left right outside a patio door.

Not to criticize but that looks like Jack Russell Terrier scat to me and I wonder where you photo'd that. Were you at my house today?

Okay, maybe I'm obsessed, but how about a Poo Page? I'm always trying to ID the animal that come through our backyard by the scat. The photo was great. Now I'll know what to look for if we're lucky enough to have Ring Tailed Cats around our place. It's actually quite interesting in a weird kind of way. ;)
