Title: Setting the record straight - History Photos
Post by: Wrightwood on Apr 03, 04, 03:19:38 AM
It's time we set the record straight about photos posted on this website.

There are some people concerned that historical photos posted on this website will be reproduced in hard copies for sale.

First of all photos posted on websites for viewing purposes are at a much lower resolution than what is used for printed hard copies. I'm not going into the technical aspects of why in this post but anyone who has ever tried printing a great looking website photo understands that the printed copy generally looks lousy.

All historical photos should be digitally archived as soon as possible to help preserve the existing condition of the image. Every day that passes old photographs continue to deteriorate not to mention the risk involved with storing them from fire, flood, earthquakes, theft or other accidents.

Current computer technology enables private parties, museums, libraries and businesses the ability to archive historical photos for future generations to use and enjoy.

Wouldn't it be nice if all the photos lost in the Big Pines fire could have been digitally archived?
