I like challenges that don't take forever to figure out. Some may know what this is but where was it?
I found this buried in the Big Rock Creek wash at Ave Q.. I only have an idea of what it is.
Are there any markings or stamps? Many times, you might find an embossed serial number or copyright number. It looks to me like either a pump or a press, such as an oil press for olives, but the latter is less likely given it's shape. Was it already painted red when you found it? That may make it something fire related.
obviously some sort of rocket, but not sure what it is for. Based on the round shape of the chamber, I would think it is a manuvering rocket of some kind.

It compresses with a piston from the bottom to the top where there is a small opening on the side that something else bolts up to. I think it's for making sausage but I've never been able to confirm it.

This is outside the original context of this thread. I'm not asking you to guess what this is with the idea that I'll tell you later. I'm hoping someone can tell me what it is! Hopefully, someone who's been around here for awhile knows. Maybe Wildman or Wrightwood? It's a couple of 100 yards up Horse Canyon on the left as you're walking up the canyon road.

love_ walnuts photo is an ore loading chute. It would have had woden sides originally and loose ore bearing rock or a mined product such as talc was dumped in it at the top. A truck would sit under the bottom and load with rock or product to be processed elsewhere. You can see another one above the railroad grade at 138 and Lone Pine Canyon on the north facing slope. These are quite common in the high desert. Older ones are wood and newer ones are concrete.
