Most of the outages are to replace one pole, and we're going to see a ton of these over the next few years.

I don't know what it's like on the east side of town, but on the west side circuits run between streets.

When our power is out for a pole replacement, our neighbors across the street have power -- or the reverse.

Last year we had 7 scheduled outages. So far this year we have 6 scheduled.

1-17-24
3-19-24
4-8-24
4-29-24
5-21-24
and now 6-7-24

As I said on the last page, I appreciate them upgrading the equipment and we need to keep the lineman safe while working. but this seems super excessive.

Remember what happened to Paradise.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paradise,_California#2018_fire

SDGE, SCE and PG&E wanted protection from astronomical liability judgements, so they asked, and got the legislature to pass, a law limiting their liability.  In exchange, they are required to replace all of the bare wires that bring us our power with heavier, insulated wire.

The existing poles aren't strong enough, so what we're seeing is new poles to replace weaker ones.

When the poles can handle it, we're going to see outages to pull the new wire.  When that's done, a tree branch or a kite string won't start a fire and destroy Wrightwood.

If you aren't thinking about the massive project to rewire entire towns, then yeah, seems excessive.  I'd blame the legislature, but things will be safer when it's all done so I just deal with that.

My biggest irritation from this: many of my clocks set themselves, but a few don't.
