Phelan couple's hike ends tragically
« on: Jan 27, 07, 11:09:21 PM »
A 68 year old Phelan man died this afternoon while hiking with his wife. Sergeant Morgan of SB County Sheriff Department said that the couple was hiking in the rugged area of Wild Horse Canyon near Hwy 2 when the man slipped and fell about 15 feet hitting his head on rocks below.

By the time rescue crews arrived the man had been dead for a while. Wrightwood/Phelan Search & Rescue (WPSAR) Team was brought in to recover the body due to step terrain. CHP helicopter H80 arrived as darkness was setting in although was not needed.

Sergeant Morgan also said that it's unknown if the man had a heart attack prior to the fall.

How sad for his wife.  She must be so tramatized.  Prayers sent to her....
